TBH, I think the votes being out in the open would make it less hostile.

People probably get more upset if they are paranoid the majority of the forum dislikes them or whatever.

If it's out in the open people will see that everyone is just jesting with everyone.

Unless, as I said earlier, a clique of people all voting for the same people doesn't want to be put on display*.

I think it's pretty clear why it would be a bad idea to take away anonymous voting for this and not because it's nasty or malicious because I do honestly think most members still take this as a light hearted bit of fun but if it wasnt anon there would be some that would obviously use it in the future to cause drama out of it.

Shaun 05-11-2012 11:46 PM

in a much more base way, too, submitting votes publically would make it obvious who's going to win... it'd make the entire surprise element redundant

Marsh. 05-11-2012 11:47 PM

Reveal the votes after the results then?

Well that's their issue then really. I'm sure the winners of the categories are well deserved and everyone shouldn't have to explain themselves just cos someone may get offended.

'some' members...god joe could you be anymore transparent?
It's a bit of fun joe....why on earth would there be any comeback?...

Marsh. 05-11-2012 11:56 PM

Say what you mean, if you mean it, say it.

It's not a case of explaining themselves at all...
You are missing the point, it's just knowing how the land lies.
Nothing wrong with that at all....

Marsh. 06-11-2012 12:02 AM

Yeah, not reasons and explanations. Just the list of awards and the names next to them for each person who votes is all.

If they're having this "opt out" thing then it shouldn't be a problem. Sensitive members who may get offended will then not participate, ergo, no drama.

InOne 06-11-2012 12:03 AM

Well we'll just have to see what happens won't we.

michael21 06-11-2012 12:03 AM

This is basically why voting will remain anonymous, at least initially - although if people really wanted to know who voted for them I guess I could tell them after the ceremony

We will, it seems odd to me though that there is one amnesty, one massive snipefest that as said creates paranoia and bad feeling on the forum....
And yet anyone who 'wins' and is slightly embarrassed or offended is berated as it's only a 'laff'....makes no sense.

no. just no, matt. don't. just no. :idc:

King Gizzard 06-11-2012 02:13 AM

about 3% of the forum will actually vote if it's un anonymous

Marsh. 06-11-2012 02:15 AM

Then the other 97% are spineless pussies.

Shaun 06-11-2012 02:16 AM

or people who don't just pop up when the slightest hint of an argument is afoot
