Yeh I wouldn't pay money to see him do stand up or anything but he just had that whole don't take life too seriously, lay back and let things happen attitude that may have endeared him to many.

Hmm not sure about slapstick - pies in faces fairly unfunny imo but people unintentionally hurting themselves has me rolling around - not good I know but Sam falling over, Charlie falling over and Dexter bashing his toe on the bed had me crying - my bad :joker:

You didn't have to laugh... he couldn't hear you as you were nowhere near him.

Fine at first but after a while, i ended up thinking the whole corny joke thing was a bit contrived. I guess they all had their idea of what sort of character they were going to play in the house, and that was Sam's. Harmless enough but didn't really match up with the rest of his character which was either quiet or moody.

Having said that, his 'bad jokes' task was a genuine highlight of the show. He was very funny in making the jokes as bad as possible and he delivered it well.

The more he tried to make them fall flat (and win the task) the more they laughed (especially Joe).

It was a genuinely enjoyable BB moment and much needed with all that BB tension.

I think what I found endearing about Sam's jokes was his obvious delight in wordplay. The fact that he clearly walks about with an encylopeadia of such jokes in his brain suggests it's more than just schtick, it's a genuine love of wordplay and puns. I like that. I like people who like language.

It's also interesting to me how many of his jokes rely on how words sound, including rhymes. Given his years of speech therapy, I get the impression he has fostered a real love of language and words.

His accent helps. Some accents are particularly good for joke telling. They add a certain emphasis and texture to the words. His line about Dexter being so rude he could make an onion cry was a good example of that I think. Wouldn't have worked half so well in a home counties accent.
