reward Ron? my god.. he is not being rewarded.. he's spent the past 10 years or so being called a racist and he's lost his job, hes not been rewarded in any way. You think they've stuck him in there because of what he said? take what he said out of this completely and hes still one of the most famous faces in the house this series.

Livia.. I agree it's a completely unacceptable word in any context... But surely quoting somebody can't be taken in the same context?

Ill admit I didn't know who Ron was when he went in... I asked Dave who he was and he said " oh he's that football guy, a racist bastard" . I said "racist? How?" . He replied "he called somebody a ******" both Dave and I are soo against racism/bigotry/any sort of prejudiced ****, so surely his comment to me couldn't have been taken as offensive ?

Yes, you're allowed an opinion, even if it is that people should switch off if they don't like it. You said "somebody is always bloody offended". I would point out that they too are allowed an opinion.

It wasn't taken in the same context. They said that Big Brother deemed the language unacceptable. The language was unacceptable. Big Brother was right to tell he so and give her a chance to apologise.

But what if they are white too?

You're literally arguing about the idea that white girls should be allowed the opinion to not find the word ****** offensive. Its odd that you can't understand how stupid that sounds.

The allegations made against Ron were years ago and Carol was attemting to stab him in the back, that's what I found offensive.

We've had several conversations on this forum about the "N word" and I've yet to see anyone type it out in full. If we can manage to discuss it without putting the actual word out there, you'd think that Carol, a media professional supposedly, would be able to manage it too. She didn't repeat the quote in the privacy of her own home, she said it on Big Brother with cameras on her.

I don't see that it makes any difference. I'm white and I think the use of the word was wrong and deserved a warning, even if BB stupidly broadcast themselves repeating it back to her.

They only included that clip so that the Sunday Smut could trumpet its headline for tomorrow!

James 24-08-2013 10:44 PM

The thing about C5 is if they are so worried about viewers being offended why broadcast the conversation in the first place.

It is not like with the BB8 Emily situation where there was a 24-hour live feed.

It looks a lot like they broadcast this type of thing so that the Daily Star can print a screaming headline eg. 'LOOSE WOMEN BB RACISM SHOCK' which they are hoping will generate some public controversy over the show, and then increase the ratings.

I know that, and I know how as well, I didn't know that THAT word would be filtered! it was a two word phrase and the second word was Brown.....!

Donovan. 24-08-2013 10:46 PM

It's just not an okay word to say, regardless of connotation. I try not to replace it with things like "the n word" or "the n bomb" because then it just trivializes the actual word and replaces it with cutesy nicknames. It's not an okay word to say and she shouldn't have said it. Also, these "they should just switch off if they're offended" comments are just silly. I'm sure that if anybody's that offended they will switch off, you don't have to try and push them there.

I do agree though, that it was silly for them to censor her and then say it themselves. Either don't censor her, or censor yourselves.

Frankly I'm shocked that you're shocked.

And what James said is true, they should never have broadcast it in the first place.

Roy Mars III 24-08-2013 10:49 PM

she deserved the warning purely for the fact that she is such an idiot that she actually went and said the word rather than just said something like the 'n word'.
