Surely GA deserve a mention in terms of UK success?
I think they appealed to a much wider fan-base. Talent-wise, obviously Leona and Rebecca. Longevity-wise, Kelly Clarkson. And I do admit, I kinda reluctantly love 1D. Obvs special mention for Queen Cher too. |

and whilst it might be true for some other artists it's only a tiny factor counting towards their success. With boybands like One Direction however where they are now is purely down to how they look.. their songs are basic, sound the same (One Thing & Live While We're Young for example) etc |

I don't think they're anywhere near the best act to come from the X Factor, but that's not what matters at the end of the day, is it? They were very cynically put together by Simon Cowell, who, let's not forget, managed to send 5ive worldwide before Sean quit and derailed everything, and that was before we had social media to increase presence and obsession. It's a self perpetuating concept; teen girls love to feel like they have a chance at being with their idols and if they see other teen girls getting a hello on Twitter from one of them, it only makes them obsess even harder because one day they might get a hello.
Leona Lewis has been nominated for a Grammy hasn't she? I think at this point 1D are objectively the most popular act to ever come from the X Factor but success can be measured in countless ways and statistics are spun all the time so that acts can lay claim to "best selling" or "most successful" or "consecutive number of hits" or "nominated for"... I think Little Mix will be one to watch. They're doing extremely well so far and I think are filling the girl band void that the USA has had since PCD ended, just as One Direction have filled the boy band one. |

I know Leona was massive for afew years after her X factor series but these are massive on a global scale so I would as the op did term these the most successful reality TV starts really myself definitely. |
I think the top 10 from the UK in no particular order would be:
One Direction Leona Lewis Girls Aloud Will Young JLS Lemar Alexandra Burke Little Mix Olly Murs Liberty X |
Little Mix has done better and Kelly Clarkson will always be the greatest
|
Oh wow. Crazy bump
Still stand by this. Drew,Nathan and myself fighting the good life. Harry’s solo run right now too :clap1: |
It would be between them, Leona, and Kelly Clarkson I'd imagine.
1D definitely did well though considering they were not even in the top 10 best vocalists of their series of TXF imo. And I have watched the performances of that year back recently so I am looking at them through a fresh lense rather than a possible bitter one from when I was 13. Out of interest how have they all been doing as soloists lately? I know that Harry and Zayn got off to good starts initially, but I haven't heard anything since. |

Although Rihanna does have some good songs imo. |
Oh Douglas is obviously getting confused because he was MM&L not MM&I
|
It’s a shame their best stuff came when the group was coming to an end, they’re not the best act, they’re definitely one of the most successful though and they all seemed like nice lads
|
One Direction are great, them and Carrie Underwood are the greatest success stories for me
|
Jade Goody
|
Really hope they don’t reunite Harry is so much better on his own
