I don't really like standup comedy so I wouldn't of noticed.

smeagol 07-12-2013 09:26 AM

The only good one is joan rivers. she is better than most of the guys.

Judging by the success of stars such as Victoria Wood, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Tracey Ulman, Ruby Wax, Jo Brand, Helen Degeneres, Miranda Hart and Saran Millican it seems lots of people find some women very funny.

Finding those mentioned funny in general and then finding them funny during stand up routines are 2 completely different things though Kizzy a lot of the names you mentioned there have had a lot more going on than stand up.

What a vile human being she is. Eugh. Not the best example to use for this argument.

Yes josy I did/ do find them all funny many did stand up in the 90s on friday/sat night live, just for laughs and the secret policemens ball.
Some have gone on to do other things but began their careers doing stand up as many comedians do.
You may not find female stand up funny but it is my opinion it is.

Verbal 07-12-2013 10:54 AM

Shappi Khorsandi
Kathy Burke
Rachel Bloom
Sarah Silverman

All very funny women

I know that but I quoted your post to point out that some (myself included) don't find some of those names funny at all during stand up but do in other things, that's all, I wouldn't say all of their success was down to stand up tbh.

This lady is a comedy genius, sadly i can't find much of her stand up stuff

This is legendary, especially that great line "beat me on the bottom with a woman's weekly"

Verbal 07-12-2013 11:19 AM

Hell no. Victoria Wood makes me want to vomit blood.

Me. I Am Salman 07-12-2013 11:20 AM

I'm not saying ALL female stand up comedians are awful, there are a few good ones I just mean in general

and like Josy said this isn't about female comedians it's purely stand up, I love French and Saunders

Victoria is generally touted as Britain's number one comedienne, so maybe the problem is you don't have a sense of humour, you ever thought about it that way?

No, I have a sense of humour. Why do you feel the need to answer a perfectly reasonable point by being so bitchy, you ever though about that?

Yes you already made that point josy, a lot of comedians make their name on the stand up comedy circuit before being approached to do other things or writing for other people.
I understand you don't like female stand up as much as I don't like snow.

MeMyselfAndI 07-12-2013 12:28 PM

It seems more like a mental thing, like seeing a female at stand up automatically wont be funny no matter what their material. Thankfully guys aren't as catty

Vicky. 07-12-2013 12:30 PM

I dont think I have ever found any standup comedian funny. Male or female :S

Simply put , because women cannot laugh at themselves

take genius like laurel and hardy all the humour is at their own expense laughing at themselves and the absurd situations in which they find themselves
if women could learn to laugh at themselves more , one glorious day they may learn to be funny

Ammi 09-12-2013 09:12 PM

..I think males and females both laugh at themselves and certainly comedians of both genders use that material in stand-up...guys say...hey what about this/when this happens...and females do the same, oh, come in ladies etc...but the thing is for a female comedian in doing that, she kind of niches her audience, I think because lots of guys don't want to hear it and lots of females don't either/it's cringy/not funny..but when guys do the same and poke fun at their gender, lots of guys laugh and females do to, not because it's any more funny but just because females are polite and just lovely like that...as you know, I'm sure....

We could never be as funny as you. Unintentionally funny, I'll admit... but funny nonetheless.
