I usually tell people that are doing it for the first time to join a small tour (somewhere like Thailand) to start with to ease into it and then plan the rest as they go as by then they feel more confident and know a few people.

Awesome. I honestly will look at every opportunity once I'm free, touring sounds like a good step. Glad to hear meeting others abroad doesn't sound troublesome.

Nah it is so easy, it's just that initial fear factor. It's no worse than starting uni, you know nobody there and you meet people instantly as long as you make a small bit of effort.

Not done India yet, how was that?

Brilliant! And I loved the food. It wasn't as stodgy as I thought. When I went to Thailand it was mainly rice and curry or noodles/pad thai but there was even more variety in India. I loved the Taj Mahal but it was smaller than I thought! The North of India is a lot better and cheaper. I thought Goa was overated. But it's worth going for a little beach break but I wouldn't go to India purely for just Goa!
