Can people please stop throwing this term around it's offensive and ignorant

wrong. It's more aimed at the lazy workless underclass.

waterhog 17-08-2014 08:52 PM

the fact she stayed and done nothing sneaky and was herself all the way through shows she had bigger ???? then connor would ever have as he was one sly slippery dog.

GiRTh 17-08-2014 09:39 PM

She's worse.

karezza 17-08-2014 09:59 PM

Ashleigh is the female version of rancid Conor.

I just realised the title says "Is Helen the MALE version of Conor?" flop from the OP

No, you think you defined it but you didn't. You attempted to by wheeling out a popular misconception and as such got it wrong. Do some reading and then you'll understand why my explanation is correct

I'm from Ireland I'm not a genius with English lingo but even a quick google search will show you it means what I said.

You can't deal with it. Someone not agreeing with the majority of the forums clearly. People disagree with Helen and you all go into defensive mode.
Funny thing is I like Helen as entertainment value just as I did for Conor, but when it comes down to it, she is a horrible person just as he was.

She... really is undereducated. She left school at 16 (the very defnition of undereducated, surely?) and, having seen some of her pre-BB facebook statuses etc., she's bordering on illiterate. I think even Helen HERSELF would admit that she didn't get much of an education.

To know that she's a chav you really only need eyes. No, scratch that... ears.

In answer to the OP's topic... yeah... Helen and Conor are two sides of one ignorant, loud-mouthed coin. Note that Conor was also very loyal to and defensive of his friends... and also not shy about speaking his mind... two things that people have celebrated in Helen

I'm not a Helen fan.

She returned to continue her studies once her kid was a few months old.

She was never brought up living in council housing which is where the word Chav comes from.

Nah, the "council housed and violent" thing was invented to fit the word after it had been in use for ages, council housing has nothing to do with chavviness. A lot of chavs actually do pretty well for themselves (50k+ incomes), usually in trades / building etc.

Boy Racers are (all) chavs... many of them have cars worth 20k+ and often they'll be in trade apprenticeships and will end up doing pretty well for themselves financially.

Money doesn't really come into it... in fact... some of the chavviest clothes / "bling" / gadgets etc. are effing EXPENSIVE!

Now... I'm aware that Helen grew up in a middle class household... but, I feel it's important to point out that there are LOTS of chavs born of middle class parents. It's a strange phenomenon, but not an uncommon one.

i do, but not all chavs are from council houses, and not everyone from a council house is a chav, they could live in a big house, and speak like this

"itz a mad ting bruv" and wear tracksuits everyday and blast ghetto music on the bus and in the street

I had nothing to say to you about your earlier comments, don't try and force me out a thread... it's a debate

And they're nothing alike

So which of these stereotypical descriptions does Helen fall into?

"Chav" comes from "Charva", a Geordie word, shortened to "Charv", became "chav" as the colloquial use spread south, then stayed "chav" when it bounced back up across the country after hitting London.

It has nothing to do with Council Housing. In fact, in my experience, as I said above it usually describes the "skilled working class" who DO have money. Tradies, salon workers / owners, etc. . The class system, if it still really exists, is an odd thing. Most of the skilled working class make much more money than the lower-middle class (management roles, administrative roles, teaching, blue-collar type things). They're still more "common", use more colloquial language... are more... err... "Heleny".
