I wouldn't really say they've managed either of those things. I wouldn't even put them in the top 3 British boy bands of all time - they've managed to be globally successful at the expense of putting time and effort into great songs, their material is very same-y and hasn't shown any growth or evolution of sound or style and I think pop artists should always be showing some kind of growth, musically. They just seem really tired, both as people and as an act, I think if they'd remained just a British phenomenon (like Girls Aloud for example) they could have been really exciting to follow but instead they managed to conquer America so they've not really changed the formula because it works for them. |
