I hope the Spanish Judge lets them go.

Patients and parents of patients don't have to blindly accept the judgement of one medical practitioner - the medical practitioner is obliged to refer a patient for a second opinion when requested. It's not up to the doctor to decide his opinion is the only opinion worthy of notice.

There will be investigations in time and the NHS and staff including doctors will have to account for their actions and the stories given to the police regarding the patient and his his family.

I feel sorry for the King family. These are the actions of parents who are desperate to get their little boy to treatment that might save his life, no police authority or hospital should be standing in the way of that. It's a disgrace. They have my full sympathy and support and I think some of the views expressed in this thread are extremely cold hearted and wrong.

I sincerely hope someone decides to take the right decisions going forward for this young child now languishing in a foreign hospital without his family. He's probably very distressed and confused at suddenly been abandoned.

For God's Sake, let the parents go, they haven't done anything wrong!

God I hope this family sues the living **** of everyone involved in this mess.

What??? They are taking parents away from a terminally ill child.....I have heard everything now....unbelievable. What that child must be going through now....I believe he is unable to communicate himself so he must be distraught.....

So which medical school did this father graduate from?

Look at it this way, a child is dying, so the parents want to try the latest thing they have read about in some magazine or off of that bastion of absolute and error free truth, the internet.

The parents then want to remove the child from a hospital where they are getting the best treatment the clinicians have devised to chase after some quack cure that they have half read about off of the internet, or some charlatan snake oil salesman is peddling.

The child is the patient and not the parent.

The doctor needs to protect the child from treatments that are unproven, will not work or even make the condition worse, even if that means protecting the child, from their own parents by use of the law.

Also they will also have in mind, other child patients, and if they allow one set of parents to discharge their child against medical advice to run after a quack treatment, then this will set a dangerous precedent putting more children at risk from well meaning parents wanting to try unproven quack treatments.

Even if the treatment is not in itself quackery and is used in one area, it may not be appropriate for another condition. Listening to the clinician last night on the radio news, proton beam therapy is not the right treatment for this child.

By not following medical advice, these parents are guilty of criminal child neglect, if not child endangerment.

This is awful!If either of my 2 kids got ill like this and the NHS gave up on them i would do anything i could to save them!They need to look at the parents motives behind this,which are saving their child!Their child is their number 1 priority!How can they be charged with neglect??

The law has to let this drop FGS and let them take him immediately.

Portsmouth Council are making the child a ward of court, so luckily he will be back in the UK ASAP and that will be the end of this nonsense about proton beam therapy. A clinician has already said it is not the appropriate treatment for this child.

They had the right to request a second opinion, it's their money if they wanted to try the therapy then that should be their right.
It's basically the same thing as was being offered in the UK, radiation therapy.. except proton beams don't penetrate through tumours.

How dare they!!! That bloody hospital has a lot to answer for here and I hope they are held to account. Since when has it become a crime or immoral for parents to seek out treatment they HOPE may benefit their own child? As for "a Clinician has said", he is not to be questioned? Since when and who is he, God? Try putting yourself in the parent's shoes. They refuse to give up hope and good for them. We aren't all nannied into submission, thank goodness.

And I suppose you think it's right also for the child to be kept separate from his parents during whatever time he has left. A child who has known love from his parents and family now faces the prospect of losing his battle for life and the last faces he is yo see are faceless doctors or court appointed social workers. That, to me, is child cruelty. I also assume you have never heard of medical professionals getting things wrong or covering their arses? They are not infallible just because they have a medical degree....

I agree with that too! This is a catalogue of the most strange behaviour, all stemming from that hospital! What is their agenda? They were only yelling about the fact that the batteries would have run out on his feeder, well they were wrong. What else is going on here? That poor child needs his parents by his side as much as is humanly possible. His brother was trying to visit him today? Does anyone know if he succeeded?

..maybe Sticks, that’s been said because it can’t be offered to him whereas it is available and has some proven success in other countries..?...it is in effect the same treatment that he’s having but directing the radiation more to the tumlour so there are far lower chances of permanent significant brain damage through damage to the surrounding cells and a chance for a far greater life quality...and it’s especially effective in children with brain tumours..it is a recognised treatment by Cancer Research who already send patients overseas for the treatment and it will be offered in the UK from 2018..but the machines are expensive and bulky according to Dr Hilary on This Morning who also said...’ it is very effective. It is similar to conventional radiotherapy, except for the fact that you get less scatter.

..maybe this is something that his own surgeons or doctors don’t agree is necessary because the treatment is so similar to what they would themselves give him but without transporting him or the expense of it etc....but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to make a huge difference in his future quality of life and there is no one who loves him more, no one who places such importance on that quality of his life, no one who would have his interests at heart more and no one who will be thinking of his future life more than his parents and I think they've showed that...if his parents are allowed to take him for the treatment, if they can raise the money quickly enough then there doesn’t seem to be anything to ‘lose’ at all with this but possibly everything to ‘gain’ for Ashya..who is the only person they’re thinking about..and they’re not thinking about whether it’s available here under the NHS but just that this could make all the difference to him and they love him enough to want to try that and they love him enough to want life quality for him..to increase the chances of that....which parent wouldn’t..
