Anyway, in the deathlist, people aren't hoping they die, nor celebrating them. The deathlist has people whom think those people will die this year, they don't go 'Oh I hope that X dies this year, and Y, better put them in my list!'

I completely understand what your saying here, but I think the 'over-reaction' and anger towards her comments were more to do with the fact that the majority of us were fans of hers, and personally I never thought she would say these things.

Her upbringing is a weak excuse. I was born in a heavily racist area but that doesn't mean that I'm going to swallow all the **** I was told I should believe when I was a kid. I didn't accept it then and I don't accept it now. This woman is just a ****ty human being that would turn on her own children for simply having the 'wrong' sexuality. Something they cannot control.

Its a tiny bit different being brought up in England then Russia, the influence in Russia is much more visable then anything over here, if your born in Russia, Grow up in Russia and love Russia then your certaintly going to believe the Russian ways, would you say the area you grow up in had no one that could guide you towards believing equality? Would you say the same about Russia?

Yep. Our society is clearly a multicultural and liberal one so in mainstream she would be slaughtered for it. From what we have been led to believe Russia on the whole does not have a particularly tolerant view of homosexuals on any societal level. She will have probably been indoctrinated with those views.

The point of the comparison is that you don't have to accept the flaws of your upbringing and using it as an excuse is weak. She traveled the world when she was successful, she had the chance to experience different cultures and different ways yet she held on to her homophobia so there's no excuse for her, especially when you consider that the gays probably had a large part in her success.

To pity her is to give her validation so she gets no pity from me, she's a hateful hag that's swallowed the government's coolaid when she's old enough to know better. There's plenty of people in Russia who aren't homophobic so what's her excuse?

They don't see it as flaws though, Many Russians think its perfectly normal, the same way we think its normal for same sex relationships to exist, and many Russians travel the world but still keep the same views because they genuinely believe it is right, and I don't pity her or agree with other Russians who have similar views but I do understand

That's still validating her though, Anyone that has been given the opportunities she has yet still holds their homophobic views are the people that should be condemned. People outgrow the flaws of their upbringing, the ones that don't have no excuse.

all homophobia is rooted in sexism. gay men are a disgrace because they lower themselves to the level of women, that is the thinking.

Lesbianism is okay in certain circumstances, because they are doing it for men and to turn men on, so it's not as bad. But lesbians that don't do it for men are bad, because they are trying to pretend to be men, that kind of lesbianism is bad.
