If Jeremiah was ugly, he wouldn't be your fave. And how come Janelle is pretty much everyone's favourite player ever when she was a blonde, white girl (There's PLENTY of those on reality tv already) |
raph implying forum members automatically support a HM based on their ethnicity when he calls every Welsh HM a legend?

I loved Janelle too (BB6 version) but she was an awful player.

I am really glad Derrick won. I warmed to him at times, not at others, but he was the best gameplayer in there by a LONG way.

It'll be a little different with people knowing him if he ends up on an All Stars season but still I'd definitely like to see how he'd do. |

In terms of best game players ever
It goes: 1. Dr. Will 2. Dan 3. Derrick 4. Danielle from BB3 The rest don’t matter. But in terms of best single season games: Derrick’s BB 16 game is the best ever player. No questions asked. And people need to stop with this dumb notion that he had it easier because he was against bad/dumb players. That's just untrue. BB16 had the same talent in terms of game players as BB 10 or BB 14. Who did Dan go against that was so great? BB16 had (besides Derrick) Frankie, Christine, Cody, Nicole, Hayden, and even Donny who were good game players. Derrick was just able to dominant this season unlike any player before him. It was an amazing victory. Dan did not go against anyone smarter than a Frankie or Christine in BB10 or BB14. Derrick is one of the best winners ever, and will always be a top three player. And that will be my final word. |
Having a good game doesn't make someone likable

me when people say derrick played a better game than Danielle Reyes https://31.media.tumblr.com/abe6e3d3...VhJ1s46pfi.gif

Honestly, Derrick just made them look dumber than they were at times, that's how good he was. It was an average cast overall for gameplay with a few really terrible recruits for the game, but that's not too different on most other seasons. I personally don't like him as much as Dan or Will for multiple game and personality reasons but no one can deny that will probably go down as the best single season performance in BB history... it's almost impossible to top it. |

^ I mean... no? People like Maggie and Andy played great games but get no recognition or credit because their personalities are pretty awful. Playing a good game doesn't make them any less detestable. If anything it makes them more because we have to deal with them for the full season and then deal with them winning.
Derrick isn't awful as a person but he's kind of a low-level sexist and could be pretty self-righteous at times (RIGHT NOW YOU'RE TAKING FOOD OUT OF MY DAUGHTER'S MOUTH was a literal quote because people dared to play their own games and not go to him before making a decision.) And on top of that he has next to no charisma and stifled any drama and sucked the fun out of the show, so no thx. I think the biggest thing is that from an entertainment perspective, there's nothing entertaining about one player controlling the season and having the upper-hand over everyone and coasting to a win. There's no drama, there's no suspense, there's no doubt, and it's tedious on a show like BB where there's 30+ episodes. 40 episodes this year because the season (for whatever reason) was extended! |
Thank god for Troy!
People need to remember that BB is primarily a TV show for entertainment. |
All I'm saying is gameplay is entertaining to a lot of people watching the show, and some of the best players are liked for that reason & then may be disliked for other personality traits or whatever else.
I don't get how people could watch BBUS and rather not want to see people playing the game that comes from the US format cause that's boring. That means you're watching in hope that the show turns out to be something it's not meant to be (basically a different form of BB) and that's fine I guess but not the purpose of the show. Then you shouldn't be questioning the opposite opinion that actually follows the purpose of the show, though. :joker:  |
Gameplay can be a mechanism to provide entertainment, but gameplay itself isn't inherently entertaining. This is (was, at least. Still is to me but clearly not to other) a show about the people. It'd be super Y2K of me to throw out the phrase social experiment, but just like how Survivor was initially "let's put 16 people on an island and see what happens", BBUS was of the same mindset. Gameplay itself was entertaining at times, but it was more because of the people who were playing the game. The Six Finger Plan and the idea of backdooring would not have been nearly as great in BB5 if it wasn't at Jase's expense. It was a cool move at the time, but the narrative behind it made it that much more epic.
I think a huge reason why gameplay isn't all that entertaining in its current state is because it's so formulaic and it's nothing we haven't seen before. Like, every BBUS season now starts with a guys alliance that may or may not dominate the whole game in the most boring fashion possible, they may or may not pick up a slam piece or two and discard her between 4th and 6th place and she'll be shocked for no reason, there will be plenty of pointless backdoors and misuses of the word, etc. None of that is entertaining, none of that is original, none of that is compelling. Especially with how basic casting has been since Grodner took over. |
I love that Derrick won. Best season for quite a while in that it was just awesome to see the way Derrick worked everyone the whole time. I absolutely loved how Frankie is out the door and while Caleb and Cody were dismissive of Frankie, Derrick was working the vote by playing to Frankie's ego because he knew that alone would get Frankie's vote.
I will say something controversial but I would put Derrick ahead of Dan for all time players. While Dan has made some great moves that have blown everyone away, he has also made mistakes that came very very close to ending his game. There were a few weeks early on in season 10 where he could have easily been evicted if someone had changed their mind or if someone he had a rivalry with had won HOH. Derrick never really had that problem. We also have the fact that Derrick has only played one season to Dans two and most of the love Dan gets is from his 2nd season. Will is easily the best ever and Derrick doesn't reach his level, but based on their first seasons, I have Derrick over Dan. |
