Is Tunisia really more Volatile than the UK? I dont think it is what do you base that statement on?

Everywhere is a potential target at the moment, however some areas are more volatile than others, it's like walking around in some areas after dark, just something you would avoid if you didn't have to do it, applying common sense in other words, this isn't some anti Muslim stance btw, I wouldn't have gone to Northern Ireland during the troubles either.

Well look at its borders: neighboured by a Libya that has descended into anarchy and now has a strong ISIS presence, and an Algeria which has had big problems with terrorism for decades. Tunisia is also the country that provided the most foreign fighters to ISIS. They did seem to make a comparatively smooth transition after the Arab Spring but they are still fairly unstable and at risk of going the same way as other countries in the region

I hate to say it, but I fear it's game over for Tunisia's tourist industry .

Livia 20-03-2015 08:59 AM

In 1997, 62 people, mostly tourists, were gunned down by Islamist terrorists in the Valley of the Kings, Egypt. Egypt's tourist industry is still thriving. I see no reason Tunisia's tourist industry won't recover in the same way. Of all the Islamic countries I've visited, and I've been to a few... Tunisia is by far the most relaxed and inclusive. I hope people support them. I will for one.

Well let's hope this incident doesn't kill off Tunisia's Tourist Industry as it would send a signal to the terrorists that they have won.

Livia 20-03-2015 09:12 AM

That's true, Nedusa. I suppose it'll take a while and mostly depend on how the Tunisians handle the aftermath.

Kizzy 20-03-2015 09:27 AM

It will recover if the threat of terrorist activity and political upheaval subsides, and when it does I'm sure the tourists will be back in droves.

Of course in time people forget that is natural but for now the terrorists have scored a victory with most if not all of the cruise companies pulling Tunis as a destination stop. Best get packing Livia they need you.

Maybe later in the year. I have other plans right now.

126 killed in Yemen today

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-31983627

also a woman was lynched and set on fire in Kabul for burning a koran (happens all the time in Pakistan, sadly)

essentially if you want to kill someone, get a few folks with you and start the lie that the person burned a koran, combine that with uneducated masses and hey presto you have a death
