I closed it because it was becoming. Place to snipe and have a dig. There was plenty of warning about that specific thread yet people blatantly ignored it.

You see I see that as a 'snipe', don't insult my intelligence because I didn't agree with your decision to close that thread.
It was a serious debates thread, there was no 'having a dig' if someone thought someone was posting rubbish and commented a counter argument then that's in the main what happened...The reports were if I remember due to one member spamming newspaper articles.
It was policed and closed, that's how I saw it because that's what happened from my perspective.
Personally I didn't blatantly ignore anything.

I get that, but where is the line? If it's only direct insults that's fine but then you have the problem of assumed insult e.g.

"I think that UKIP is essentially a xenophobic party and many UKIP members are racist."

"But I support UKIP so you are calling me a racist! Waaah!" *report*

Or

"I think that after the 2010 elections, believing a word of the Lib Dem manifesto would be incredibly naive... "

"I am voting Lib Dem how darest thee call me naive?? I have three degrees in astuteness! I'm going to report your face into the ****ing pavement you scum sucking waste of electoral roll space!"

... Well, you see my point. I might have gotten a little carried away there.

Maybe Niamh should just create her cage as a sticky thread at the top of the forum, and then as soon as threads start to kick off, the involved members get locked into that one thread until it's over? I reckon that would actually be possible with creative usergroup permissions, it could be hilarious :joker:.

"Kirk! Kizzy! BANISHED to the cage, don't come out until it's over or one of you is dead."

That's been discussed before actually, about having a kind of "argument thread" I can see the pros and cons but I think it'd just become a place where people would go to insult eachother and maybe even people who are not involved or don't want a non moderated section

Just make it clear that it's a duel. No mentioning of other parties but free reign to go at each other. But everyone else can spectate. I have to be honest, I'd just sit and read that all day long :joker:. Assuming I wasn't one of the combatants of course D:

To be fair though - a couple of us DO get too involved and the editing of the thread was no different to the way that similar threads had been 'cleansed' in the past, so I don't really understand the 'umbrage' at this one.

I have had long, detailed posts removed which were 99% relevant to the thread topic but transgressed on 1%, and I have had posts removed which left those I was debating with with the 'last word', and it's not a satisfying feeling when this happens, but hey, that's life. Best to move on and all learn from this.

You don't understand why I'm annoyed my thread was closed?
Seeing as your admittance that you and A N other member get too involved in them should address that.
Maybe it's what Ammi was referring to who knows.

I believe the mods have employed the services of Ramsay Bolton to deal with any errant threads :worry:

Thank you Niamh - I do try to be fair, and I do know how hard it is for you mods to have to put up with us 'opinionated' warring factions and mete out 'justice' as fairly as you can when we go too far. I - honestly - wouldn't like to have to make those decisions, kind of 'damned by some if you do, and damned by others if you don't.'

If you think I was insulting your intelligence then I'm sorry for you. I clearly told you what happened. The thread was closed for good reason (discussed in admin why it should be closed). I don't know what you want from this? I've explained everything before and I'm off out now. If you want to PM me and discuss it I'll get back to you tomorrow.

Look at Rare poster Stu from that thread:

I'm all for a total cesspit of a thread or subforum where we can slag each other off for the laugh

You're doing it again...You're not sorry, you're sorry 'for me'.
I don't want to discuss it, I PMed Josy to explain how I felt. I just wanted to make a point that if you want to stop members sniping...don't snipe at them.

It is genuinely not much fun after a while. Me and my wife owned and ran a forum (a parenting forum) of a similar size to TiBB for 3 years and eventually just gave it up, because it had simply become a chore and not enjoyable, and it was very low on active moderation and one completely unmoderated heated debates subforum. We trusted people to sort things out for themselves in time. With mixed results, to be fair, but it mostly worked quite well. Mostly.... lol.

I miss the "tech" side of running a forum, I really enjoyed messing around with the code and inventing my own stupid BBcodes and add-ons, but I do not miss the moderation side at all. The staff-only subforum got really bitchy at times... I wonder what's said about all of us in the tibby staff forum? :joker:

 Calm down woman, I didn't even address my post to you - I was making a comment in general reply.

The emboldened text is - undoubtedly - a thinly veiled skit at me for no reason - but I am now in that all too familiar situation where I cannot defend my stance or really respond to you without aggravating the situation.

But to be honest here - you yourself started to turn that thread nasty for no reason when I posted:

Quote:

And I wrote the above because your response GENUINELY did not address it and you were just making irrelevant comments. However; you responded - quite nastily for no reason - with:

"I responded to the relevant element. If you don't understand my post I'm not sure how I can simplify it any more without pictures."

Which is personal, deliberately demeaning and insults my intelligence.

And because I have learnt from similar incidents when I HAVE got drawn in and ended up infracted and banned, and because I did not want the thread to descend into the usual chaotic verbal slugfest (which is the direction it was going anyway) I reported you.

Whether that is solely what caused the thread to be closed or whether it was simply a contributory factor I don't know, and I don't really care.

If the mods decision was to close the thread then that's the mods decision and we all have to accept it.

Sorry.

user104658 24-04-2015 12:04 PM

If this thread gets closed or deleted I think it might technically qualify as "art".
