I don't think they needed to listen to the fans because they had a basic format that worked which they usually stuck to. When they didn't things went awry. The second half of Big Brother 7 with the secret house, pointless new housemates, the eviction and then re-entry of Nikki was an example of the producers messing with a series that was doing brilliantly until then.

Well, there is. The one thing they've had constant complaints about for 4 years and which many felt was the heart and soul of the show.

The big problem is with the constant interference from the prods. Pick the HM's, stick them in, give them grief with well thought out tasks and let them develop the storylines themselves. The numbers will come back as long as people know they are not being used as idiots to support an ever failing experiment.
Everything has to be more immediate today. Learning what happened 24 hours after it took place is, these days, too long. In a world of social media and 24/7 twitter activity the live feed would have slotted in perfectly. But no, they take a fast moving show that was exciting and they slow it down to a laborious slodge.

Has anyone seen nominations result ?

To those who said CH4 listened to the fans, that's bull.

Did they? Nope. Remember the biggest nail in the coffin. A quad eviction to evict vote. They meddled with noms/twists too. They put Nikki back in and didn't care about the backlash. They did their fair share of wrong doings too.

aman201 18-05-2015 03:12 PM

It's so disappointing though.

BB13 and BB14 were so good.

Rhyl Cream 18-05-2015 03:15 PM

It is dreck hence low ratings.

This.

Agreed. Though they did listen in regards to bringing back the live feed in some form for BB11

That really did seem like a final up yours to the viewers imo. Phil Edgar Jones, the producer, was posting on Digital Spy during that series but stopped because he became so infuriated with the constant complaints.

I trace the beginning of the decline a bit further back. The house next door was totally unnecessary during that series, which was doing extremely well with the characters they had until that twist. Jayne being punished by putting everyone but her up, ensuring Nikki would be evicted (people forget all of this in regards to Nikki) and them losing their most talked about HM that year. The ratings declined, they stupidly did what they had done previously with Jon Tickle only this time allowed that person the chance to win. And then the real killer, their completely inept response to Jade Goody and her familly and cronies during the following CBB. It went from bad to worse after that when they decided it would be a good idea to start BB8 with no men, and not put all of them in until week 3, by which point people had already given up. BB never recovered on Channel 4, and the hope was that Channel 5 would allow it to. They got people's hopes up with the talk of the return of the red button live service and then failed to deliver and have continued to do so ever since.

It's been a shockingly badly produced show since Big Brother 7 with a couple of exceptions (Celebrity series and maybe BB9 and BB14), truth be known. And the ratings reflect that.

Surely it speaks volumes that not only are the ratings pancaking but fans are switching off in droves too?

They aren't though. Big Brother's ratings share is on par or is more than last year. All TV ratings are down.

This is what most people fail to see, all of the television ratings are lower nowadays with exceptions for BGT etc. The share is more important now and it's holding steady so I don't see a problem.

sampvt 20-05-2015 09:57 AM

Ratings are massaged and bear no resemblance to the real issues. BB has a target audience and they are drifting away, that's a fact.

Not really, when you fail to see the share is higher.

The Audience share doesnt matter a jot when it comes to advertising revenue that the show lives or dies by. Raw numbers are what decides how much an advertising slot is worth.

mrmattybeck1 21-05-2015 06:56 PM

The crisis seems to be fully there still

What about them getting rid of live feed, in CBB6/BB10?

Pete. 21-05-2015 07:07 PM

Channel 5 are dishing out the promo ads every ad break lmao

I don't get why some bang on about live feed so obsessively. What are they going to do watch it 24/7? Nothing better to do with their time?

Also people's TV habits are changing & I dont think the future has much time for reality tv.

It's not that. Its more about credibility about the whole program & situations. I mean imagine if we saw Gina vs Sallie, Or that woman beater & hazel the slapped unedited if we had 24/7 livefeed? Would go all over youtube & voice would spread more

There was still more live coverage during those years than we get with Channel 5. And at least they did listen to the fans and bring it back for BB11 in some form.
