I just can't get my head around that, to me it is cruel to make someone believe they're loved/adored by the public when in actual fact they don't have a hope in hell of winning.
When he's up for eviction and hears all those boos, he's going to be wondering what he did wrong to have changed the publics opinion of him so quickly. He's going to be shocked, expecting cheers but receiving boos and it's going to be written all over his face which is going to be humiliating for him.

Lostie's point proven, as long as a housemate is generally disliked, they're not allowed to do anything without being branded the worst thing in the world, but a popular housemate comes along and does something nasty and vindictive and it's all sweetness and light.

I'm not deluded thank you very much.Helen is the most vile cretin in there and is the definition of nasty. Nikki is just having fun she isn't innocent but she is just telling him what he already thinks nothing wrong with that. If she did that to Simon or anyone else then yeah it will be nasty because they don't think they are going to win and are the public's favourite. Jack already thinks he is loved tbh.

She's purposely getting someone's hopes up, even further than they are, just to humiliate him when he finds out he's not actually all that popular at all, that's sly and cruel, but as seen, will obviously be ignored because Jack is disliked and Nikki is a 'legend'
