I'm so happy to read these headlines, talk about what goes around comes around. Been saying this has been a growing problem for years , UKIP have tried to create their manifesto around the EU and immigration but nobody listens.

Sadly I would have hoped the UK would retain its fair balancing of at least wanting to find out first who of these are genuinely trying to escape persecution and total poverty in their own homelands,before branding them all scroungers and wastes of time and space.
What has happened to the compassion, understanding and basic fairness the UK used to say it prided itself on. They are being put up in Hotels because we have not as Country made sure we have the right facilities for them to go to, how many years has this been a problem. If this was millions of people.rather than few thousand at most,then fair enough, but how I wish the media particularly would get this in the right perspective and look compassionately more at a justice angle rather than brand other living human beings as near parasites. How nice it would be too, if politicians leading the UK, and the PM particularly, did not help fuel the prejudice in the media against these people too. I really am more and more every day coming to despair at the attitudes of the people in the UK now, I already with a passion hate its rotten biased media. I am less and less feeling that I am or even want to be, a UK citizen in a hard hearted nation that shows little respect for the lives of people without even knowing their true circumstances or why they may be fleeing elsewhere in the first place. Awful situation but govts have known this was always possible,the UK one for sure has, it has been warned plenty from UKIP,who will likely have a field day with he plight of these people again. The French and UK govts have not done enough to set up places where such people can be 'invited' to go until they are assessed as to their real reasons to coming here along with their problems and difficulties. The fact they have not done that and they end up in Hotels,is because if they do get here, until we do that process, we have some duty to keep them safe. Or would the media and those who attack these people, prefer they were just abandoned on the streets of the UK or worse still rounded up, thrown into trucks like animals and discarded with no due process of finding out their own fears and issues as to why they are really in the state they are in and so desperate,so desperate they will risk their lives even to get away. I almost no longer recognise great chunks of the UK for its hard line and cold attitude to such people any more. I am often just left, watching, shaking my head, in near shame at the news and catching the so called newspaper headlines on issues like this. |

There is something that i just dont get in all this.
The tunnel closures and delays and the chaos that has ensued on both sides of the tunnel was caused by striking French ferry workers blocking the tracks and placing burning piles of tyres on the tracks not migrants. The migrant story was that amidst the chaos caused by striking french workers a group of 150 migrants made 2000 attempts to breach the fence in one night. How has that become 2000 migrants storm the tunnel? no mention of striking workers being the cause of disruption anymore and the 2000 attempted breaches is now being reported as 2000 migrants. Dont get me wrong there needs to be changes on both ends of the tunnel proper immigration facilitys need to be set up on both ends and the free flow of traffic needs to be secured but i feel this is purposely being sensationalised and misreported for whatever reason. |

I agree with Joey and Samuel too, these people are demonised without question as to why they are paying so much to risk their lives to come here.
The argument that they could stop en route in any European country and be safe is not addressing the real issue, why are tens of thousands fleeing their own countries... So what if they are made comfortable while they are processed for almost certain deportation, have we no civility left that we deny them a small respite before delivering them back to the uncertain land they riskd their lives to leave? |
if they have no verifiable I.D. and they all have the same sob stories, i'm sorry to be cynical, but i'm sure the human traffickers tell them exactly what type of sob stories to tell in order to be let in. How can you verify any of their stories? By calling their families? obviously their families will say whatever they are told to say.
It's a huge mess, and i don't believe half of the sob stories they tell. There are tons of very sad stories being told, and the people telling them have MANY reasons to LIE. How do you find the real desperate refugees when all the fakes that just come for economic reasons are telling the same sad stories? many have no passports. Thats the problem we have. Get the New High Fence Up Use Dogs on every lorry to make sure all Illegals are Ejected. |

The 'Public Outrage' is not generally aimed at ANY help being given to GENUINE refugees - and there are some - just to the never ending thousands of fit, able bodied young men who make up the majority of these 'illegal immigrants opportunity seekers.
Criticising the general public of the UK just because they increasingly do not agree with the 'welcome -one-and-all' mentality is unfair. The media cannot manipulate actual undoctored live tv footage of the conduct of some of these 'illegals' so it is banal to blame them. |
