Didn't a lot of people get it for free? And I'm sure Oathy used to mention something about them not being allowed to make money out of it for some reason. I was always a bit confused about this issue.

James 04-07-2015 01:42 PM

They gave away 1000 free passes before it started. I got one of them.

Ashley. 04-07-2015 01:49 PM

:joker: can we just get a new production team?

Beetlejuice 04-07-2015 01:52 PM

80,000 subscribers?

If they lowered the price, made what you're paying for more substantial, and allowed people to pay for passes with their phone credits (so younger people can pay) they could get more than that imo.

80,000 x 10 quid?

£800,000

That's got to be worth trying/

If it was still at £14.99. That still well over £1million.

Even at £10 it's £800,000. I'm sure that would cover the cost a bit.

Withano 04-07-2015 01:59 PM

Yes, unless they do acomplete 180.. They don't do much right.

Yeah, guess so, if they priced it right. I guess Internet bandwidth would be the biggest cost, and subscriptions could cover that. But we can't be sure without knowing all the figures.

But even with a few tens of thousands of subscribers you are only going to have a few thousand, at most, watching at any one time. They probably don't think it is worth doing, for that amount of extra Internet buzz it would generate.

CBB3 was so dull!!! It was tv gold for the Jackie Stallone days but probably one of the weakest series imo.

Maxxie. 04-07-2015 02:15 PM

So paid live feed, did they have ads in them? & that tweet tweet stuff you get on tv?

bots 04-07-2015 02:16 PM

i think C5 would be lucky to get 10k subscribers to a live feed at £10 which would generate them a measly £100k. Compare that to what they would earn with sensible advertising on a normal channel and its just not worth it

Maxxie. 04-07-2015 02:19 PM

They should do it on the app & keep advertising it on bb. That makes it so simple to pay & they should have hour, day, week & series passes. This would work even better on cbb as well!

You can never measure the worth of "buzz" though. The thing about BB14 and then the CBB with Davidson is that it earned them a lot good will as well. That's one of the reasons it has been such a disappointment the last couple of years.

It just always seemed obvious to me that in the age of twitter and other forms of 24/7 social media, that the live coverage lent it self very well to that.

All they need to do is add some extras. For example... An exclusive diary room feed- to go along with the main feed - every Sunday at a fixed time for when they do nominations. So you know who is up there and then. And then the following day you could do a save and replace task (which I always liked) at a fixed time.

Bring back BBLB (Instead of BOTS which has always been awful) and you can start the noms straight after that finishes on a Sunday lunchtime. Maybe even show the first nomination and then tell people if they want to see who will be up go to the website now and watch it as it unfolds. Do some kind of web version of BIg Brother's Big Mouth with Iain Lee as well. He's much funnier when he's given the freedom to do what he wants.

There are so many extra features they could add and as long as they advertise it all well, it could be great again. It's got to be better than coming up with ever more desperate stunts each week to contrive drama that soon becomes insufferable.

rionablue 04-07-2015 02:56 PM

Absolutely not. I far prefer it to Celebrity Big Brother. I know I am in the minority but I prefer a series that runs more than three weeks

Noms then all week voting.
No secret rooms or twists.
More normal people & less manipulating by BB.
I loved the first few series.

Yes do this :cheer::cheer:

BB11 had viewing figures of about 2.7 million. The best series on Channel 5 managed to get up to 1.9

And there was literally nothing else on offer with the live feed. Throw in some of the extras we've been talking about, and allow people to pay via various methods, including by phone credit, and you'll probably not be far off that. The hardcore fans have remained the same I suspect. There's more people using the internet these days as well.

And you can have extra advertising on the website.

Northern Monkey 04-07-2015 03:13 PM

Yes!It's gone to ****!

thediaryroomchair 04-07-2015 06:18 PM

Please rest the civilian series and return it in 2017. The next series should be the best of Big Brother and then BB17 and BB18 return with some of the Channel 4 production team who actually knew what they were doing.

Agree with OP. This series has been awful. The legends were in the house too long, had too much influence and way too much airtime. I struggled to watch all the 'legend' episode so am not quite sure what gong on at the moment. I lost interest a long time ago and so I dont care who wins at all. For me none of them deserve it cuz none of them have had a narrative running for the whole show, putting the legends in made sure of that.

I dont want to see last years HMs' in the house or HM's who are considered legends; I want to see THIS years crop and in this series they've faded into the background while 'legends' sorted out their personal beefs on screen. That isnt what I want to see.

SO I agree if this is how BB is gonna go for the next few years then you can definitely count me out.

Daniel-X 04-07-2015 06:29 PM

I think they should give it one more try next year. If it fails again then I do think it may be time to call it a day with Civilian BB. It's clear that the one thing what needs to happen is for them to stop with the producer meddling and constant twists. BB13 is the best C5 series and I think one of the classics I've seen 3-16 (with the exception of 4). BB13 had very little twists or producer manipulation and it is the best C5 series by quite a way.

I think if BB17 fails for them it's time to do an all stars in 2017 and then call it a day with civilian BB. BB17 will be the making or breaking of BB's future I think.

This. They'll have to end their contract way before 2018.

ItWasJustBanter 04-07-2015 07:35 PM

The "legends" ruined this series.

Leave it as it was first day but cause more mind games for the housemates.

joeysteele 04-07-2015 07:36 PM

No, I would hate another series with ex housemates again however so no more like this series for me.
