They are still painful at times - especially when I catch them  - and look horrific, but I genuinely have always had very strange recuperative abilities Ammi, and yesterday I plastered 2 walls with little problem.

I believe that it is the bones in the ends of the two fingers which are damaged (my fingernails are black and will probably 'drop off') so I am lucky that it was not mid finger, which would have incapacitated me for much longer.

Here are some pics of some of the plasterwork I am currently doing, because, again, it is unusual and you may find it interesting.

I decided to remove the internal double doors and frame from kitchen into conservatory in favour of just an opening, so that the garden features were visible from the dining table - once the conservatory is totally renovated.

I wanted to reduce the size of the opening but this meant bricking up the difference in matching brick which was too costly and time consuming, or studding up the difference in timber and plasterboard, which was far cheaper and quicker, but which would leave an ugly plastered panel between brickwork and new door lining.

I overcame the problem by replicating the brickwork on the plasterboarded studding and I think that by the time the entire conservatory walls are painted in an ivory masonry paint the 'faux' brickwork will be barely - if at all - noticeable.

I'm pleased to say that I managed this despite being handicapped by my dodgy fingers.

Thanks Ammi.

You should get your fingers checked out at the hospital, kirk.

..I know that they would also just be strapped up if you went to A&E or the GP and you've done that yourself but the damaged bones could cause many future problems, things like arthritis related stuff, which really can be crippling and so painful so please Kirk, just go and make sure they're all strapped up ok and nothing needs t be looked at further..?../will you do that...

You and Vanessa and some of the other girls on here are as bad as my wife

OK, I promise, I will go to the ozzie and let them examine my fingers.

I genuinely LOVE all your affectionate concern and am touched. (my wife reckons that I have always been 'touched' - in the head )

Thank you.

For Ammi, Vannessa, Calderon, Cherie, Kizzy and Jenny Juniper:

I finished plastering yesterday (and filled time on TIBB waiting for the coats to dry) and went to the hospital as I promised you all.

Phew!!

I got a bollocking from two different nurses for not going immediately the accident happened, but the good news is that only one finger is actually broken and the other very badly bruised. As I thought, they bound my fingers together (I think the nurse doing the dressing was into S &M and Bondage ) and sent me on my way with an order not to do any more work, an appointment with my GP and a prescription for pain killers.

The bad news is that I will probably lose both fingernails - which cost me a fortune to have manicured (just kidding :hehe:).

I did not tell the nurses that I'd just plastered the above. :joker:

I was in and out fairly quickly Cherie, but then again it wasn't weekend so there weren't the usual drunks etc clogging up the system.

waterhog 26-08-2015 09:03 AM

kirky you are a legend - they new who you was - special treatment and rightly so.

kirklancaster 26-08-2015 09:47 AM

Thanks Hog.

Kizzy 26-08-2015 10:07 AM

Glad to hear it, the conservatory is looking great too is that plasterboard and render? Hope there's a window or some ventilation at the other side my dad made that mistake on one of his 'projects' and had to redo it.

Vanessa 26-08-2015 10:10 AM

I'm glad you went to the hospital, kirk. But take it easy and don't work too hard.

Thanks Kizzy. It's an internal stud wall now because I built on at the other side so it's fine. Just hope it looks enough like brick once it's all painted to 'pass muster'.

Thanks Vanessa. My problem is that it kills me to be inactive when there is work to be done.

Oh Kirk... sorry to hear about your fingers. I hope they weren't your favourite fingers...

You're an artist, loving the faux bricks. I'm compiling a list of jobs I'd like you to do.

LukeB 26-08-2015 01:39 PM

Sorry to hear about your fingers kirk. Are you having an op? I broke my finger like 10 years ago and had to have a operation.

ALL my fingers are my favourites Liv - me being such an artistic and creative person

Looking forward to receiving your list of works, but we will have to agree the money side first, and there IS a limit to how much I will pay to work for you. :hehe:
