To be honest I think it's nicer that they're going about it this way, they're giving people plenty of time to accept it, loads of people will go to their tour to see them one last time before the break and it's got none of the messy, horrible split vibes that most groups have. Means they can come back in 3-4 years (probably with Zayn) and still forge a career as they'll still be young.
