Carphone warehouse statement

As a result we feel that as long as this continues we are unable to associate our brand with the programme.

We had already made it clear to Channel 4 that were this to continue, we would have to consider our position. Nothing we saw last night gave us any comfort. Accordingly we have instructed Channel 4 to remove our sponsorship name and branding with immediate effect.”

Hopefully the suspension of the sponsorship of BB will truely be a suspension and they won't completely withdraw from the show.

They wont withdraw Sol. By the time summer comes around and BB8 starts, they will all be falling over each other to sign up again.

Publicly withdrawing their sponsorship guarantees them so much publicity right now.

I'm pretty sure that she did mean back to India!! How is that racist? She's implying that she doesn't want Indian people coming to this country.

Regarding the 'white trash' comment - I'm not sticking up for Jermaine because I like him or anything - I have become pretty indifferent to him actually - but I don't find that racist. Jackiey typifies the type of person which that phrase applies to.

Remember when Kate Moss got dropped from a lot of her contracts after the cocaine story broke? They all ended up working with her again, once the fuss had calmed down.

Racism, they should have sorted out, but bullying has happenned in all series of BB so I don't see the problem. If Carphone Warehouse gave a tosh about bullying then they would have pulled out last year when Shabaz was bullied, but since they didn't have the press blowing it out of proportion they didn't have anything to fear. It's all about money.

The retailer has sponsored Big Brother since 2004, for an estimated £3 million a year. However, TV watchdog Ofcom has received a record 14,500 complaints about the treatment of Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty.

The allegations centre around housemates Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd and Jo O'Meara, who have been accused of bullying Shetty and making racist taunts.

According to reports, The Perfume Shop has also announced that it will be suspending sales of Jade Goody’s perfume, called Shh… Jade Goody, while she remains in the Big Brother house.

EDIT: This may be why the lines weren't opened up sooner, and why there weren't any Carphone Warehouse adverts.

I maybe a cynic but notice the key wording "suspending". This indicates a definite hedge of their bets. If Jade can crawl out of this mess and ch4/endemol it will be back on. Guarantee. Perfect example: Kate Moss. Recently voted model of the year 2006. The brands that dumped her on the back of the drug scandal are kicking themselves. Don't be fooled. Even something as serious as racism can be glossed over and re-deemed with some serious PR. Look for the "I was Conned!" Headline in next issue of Heat (thos celeb sycophants - look up that word in wikipedia) If it blows over Jade will back to her supposedly dumb self, conning you out of money for fitness videoes.
