Big Brother stopped being a social experiment years ago

But I agree I don't want the us/can format, the endless alliance and game talk gets on my nerves a bit. I wouldn't mind elements of if being used tho like the HOH and Veto competition

Jason. 17-03-2016 06:37 PM

How would HOH and POV work without having the full BBUS/Can format though?

Will. 17-03-2016 06:39 PM

I guess they could do it but just have a public vote on eviction instead.

Denver 17-03-2016 06:39 PM

They should bring back the save and replace task

Yes it is a game.

There is a prize up for grabs therefore it is a game. A social game.

BBCAN format please, a perfect mix of UK tasks and silliness and US style strategy and competition.

I agree, or potentially tweak the US format slightly so that the public still get some control (although importantly not directly over who's evicted)

The public vote is potentially the worst thing about the show

Strategy based format ≠ Big Brother not being a social experiment

In fact, I would argue that internal voting is far more true to the ~social experiment~ ethos than having outside influence via viewer voting is

Greg! 17-03-2016 06:42 PM

I wouldn't mind allowing nominations talk but the public vote and all housemates nominating is a MUST!! tbh

EspeonBB 17-03-2016 06:45 PM

I feel like they'll still find a way to screw it up :bored:

Easy, the best hybrid IMO if you still wanted to have some form of viewer control would be:

HoH nominates three people

Veto is played and can change nominees as usual

The public votes to save one of the nominees (which could be changed to evict for double evictions)

The house then vote to evict one of the remaining two

Give the UK a jury vote and you're sorted. This also adds a new dimension to the game because if your target is saved by the public, you are ****ed

But then wouldn't that mean we'd have no nominations? Isn't that what we always complain about the lack of nowadays?

With US/Can they have a task which determines the HOH and then the HOH puts two people up for eviction and then the POV is another task to have someone safe and replace someone else if they wish.

Oaker 17-03-2016 06:48 PM

Nominations/Public vote evictions are the 2 best things about BBUK :hee:

No thanks. That's even worse than what we have now. Normal nominations with every HM nominating is a must imo.

Greg! 17-03-2016 06:49 PM

Most BBUK evictions without a public vote have been tragic

Denver 17-03-2016 06:52 PM

The British public love to get physically involved with their favourites without that they will switch off

Throwing oranges at vanessa teas

EspeonBB 17-03-2016 06:54 PM

I think the public vote is essential. Without it BBUK would just be BBUS lite (with somehow worse producers)

Plus the British public wouldn't be here for strategy, look how many people still have a problem with 'game playing!!!1'

Glenn. 17-03-2016 06:56 PM

I'll wait until I see this relaunch before getting my hopes up

Oh I thought it was about adopting the BBCan format completely

The HOH nominates the housemates to face eviction, players compete in the Veto after which the nominations either stay the same or one changes (just as is the case with the US format) and then the lines to evict open and whoever gets the most public votes gets evicted I guess. At the very least it would guarantee only two face eviction each week.

And if you want the same traditional BBUK diary room nomination format then you could just change the responsibility of the HOH, like making them decide the shopping list or something idk. It's not like both of those elements would result in a ratings boom or anything but it would add something a little different to the show.

Look, I'm not here for Big Brother UK switching formats entirely either. But that doesn't mean that the production team can't take elements from other versions to strengthen ours. Here's what I'd take from different versions around the world:

- Big Brother Australia's nominations points format and their mix of VTE & VTS. Their nominations format has the weekly twist that BBUK is looking for in the superpower whilst keeping a consistent format with the right amount of strategy. The mix of VTE and VTS is ideal because it can finally end the debate of whether VTE or VTS is better - just use the one that you want to.

- Big Brother Canada's online Live Feeds - this could open the show up to more product placement deals that can help with the running costs (I'd also be willing to pay for a subscription like the USA). I'd also take Big Brother Canada's brilliant website.

- Big Brother USA's Power of Veto - this can also add to the strategy element and is another weekly task (Channel 5 seem to love having more than one task a week).

Oaker 17-03-2016 07:01 PM

Isn't BB11's save and replace basically the same as POV though?

Daniel. 17-03-2016 07:02 PM

I don't want jurys etc.

BBUK format please >>>>>>

Essentially, yes.

Jordan. 17-03-2016 07:07 PM

It'll be tragic as always just with a new set
