He didn't hide them, he just walked out the shop holding them! He went back into the queue first and then slipped out so no one else noticed.

Well if you are so moral why didn't you shout thief instead of waiting til he left ?

Because I'd rather not bring attention to myself in a busy shop?

If it meant that much you should have shouted not waited like a mouse - wait til they are gone - well upstanding

hijaxers 30-03-2016 07:58 PM

Step away from that baguette - helicopters overhead

So if a granny round the corner is assaulted you'll wait til they are gone to shout it up

Firewire 30-03-2016 08:00 PM

Yes I would just lay on the ground until I bleed to death

Baguettes can be very damaging :joker:
Especially if they are inserted in bizarre places

I did see an elderly lady pocketing a yogurt once, I said nothing.

I even forced some to steal by faking things through my scanner if they looked poor and were lovely.

I do like a bit of kindness its way nicer than being nasty - even if we don't realise we are being nasty at the time

I love people who try and argue for the sake of arguing.

It happened today when someone stole two baguettes from Greggs. It's next to my work and I'm a regular so I told them behind the counter quietly to check the CCTV.

After telling them I feel extremely conflicted with my decision. Would you have said something?

...don't feel conflicted, Jonathan..you made a decision and felt it was right at the time and all you did was say for them to check the CCTV is all...I doubt that will lead to anything else in the capturing of the baguette thief.... but maybe something that they can look at in terms of possibly keeping their stock safer in that shop..?... anything else like that is their decision, all you have done is what you felt was right so it could never really be a wrong thing for you to have done, really....

Because of the profession I am in, my answer would likely be thought of as should be yes.

However it really would depend more on who was stealing and what it was too, having said that I would more likely not tell.

Smithy 03-04-2016 06:20 PM

Working in retail our policy is that if you see someone steal something, just let them go and call the police afterwards seeing as you never what they could do  we can claim the money back anyway, I guess in a different store id do the same and tell someone once they'd gone
