A trial run perhaps?

Idk I just think it's a kinda nice idea that could fall into misuse territory but honestly... the level of repetitive fighting in certain sections on here... you could arrange for a food hamper to be delivered to every member and some would find a way to throw it at each other, it seems silly to dismiss a reasonably innocuous feature because it may - just may - get misused.

Anything to cut down on [2] or ^this or :clap2: posts is welcome imo. I just see this as something to be used to express support and agreement rather than brown nosing.

This. :hehe:

But yeah, the feature would simply be another way of doing what can already be done..... agree with a post. So fighting or not, a thumbs up/like feature is not going to change it.

It would be like deleting the serious debates section, because some debates turn into all out arguments. People just need to get on with it.

It's also not just that, I think people would gear their posts more toward getting likes, you might say no one's that sad but surely we all see people on social media who fish for likes etc. I just feel like it would come to dominate a lot of threads and that it isn't a necessary feature, maybe I'm unusual but I wouldn't want my posting being measured by likes and wouldn't want the feature to apply.

But wouldn't that apply now with people wanting to get replies/quotes?

Attention seekers and their attention seeking threads/posts (not naming any names) happens regardless of what features are available.

I can see why you wouldn't really mind if people like your post or don't but that's sort of the point I think. It isn't really an important feature, it's not as if there'd be rewards doled out for "most likes of the month!" (oh god I've put that idea in someone's head now :worry:)... I don't know, I guess it could massage the egos of some and make them think "well I'm getting 10 likes every time I say something bad about [X Housemate] so let's carry on", but I can't really see it being that big a deal to anyone.

To use the Facebook example, I don't know of anyone who does 'fish' - but that might be because I'm a bit strict with who I do and don't follow and see on my timeline  - it's become more of a "like what's funny / good news about a family member or friend / a shared article or song or video" feature rather than anything to do with popularity.

I mean if we're talking about fishing for compliments and likes then surely Most Loved is the biggest problem on here.

Jake. 19-04-2016 08:24 PM

"liking" the idea

It's no different than someone quoting and agreeing to a post, only it takes less effort and prevents pointless posts like "This".

That as my thinking when I suggested it. It would enhance some of the thread and remove the pointless posts agreeing with something that is already said. Just like I have done to your post now.

It might be good for my post count but doesn't add much to the debate when I could just have liked your original post and not bothered to quote it.

Pete. 19-04-2016 08:59 PM

As long as there isn't a silly likes accumulator like the post count put on our profiles I don't see how competition could arise?

Marsh. 19-04-2016 09:15 PM

Here for the likes feature being implemented and people getting infracted for continuing to post "This". :hehe:

This is much more simple, it is just a button like in Faceache or Twitter. Nothing needs to be recorded other than the number of times the button has been pressed on a post.

You make a system that doesn't even record who pressed the button in a way that is visible on the post, or a system where the users names are only recorded on the post itself.

No global counters of how many times a person has pressed the button since they joined need to be recorded at all.

A cheeky spill!

Tbf I would be winning the most liked post all of the time so it's not fair on the other members on here.

billy123 20-04-2016 10:05 AM

I think a lot of the replies to my post have proven the point.
Bad idea thank you for proving it correct. Too easy :clap1:

If you're on about mine then it's clear that I'm joking.

But personally I wouldn't like this feature as it does make it become too cliquey and people trying to impress the "majority" feeling on the site.

It's not a good road to go down so I personally wouldn't do it.

Apart from arguing over BB hms, TiBB seems a lot calmer than a year ago or so with less arguments. It would just be a nice feature to have instead of [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] taking up half a page.

Why is poor [7] [8] [9] [10] & [11] being ignored for?

Crimson Dynamo 20-04-2016 11:28 AM

so every time a liberal "identifies problems but can never offer solutions" poster posts all the others just like their post and everytime a closet kkk loving neo-nazi vile racist xenophobic woman hating homophobe like kirk me or cherie post we just thumbs up each other?

I am here for doing that to Cherie but Kirk, not so much

I agree and it might make threads more tidy actually instead of lots of people quoting the same post and putting a clapping smiley after it, the post appreciation could be contained in the like button

Crimson Dynamo 20-04-2016 11:36 AM

Yes but I am not here for someone posting like

"well I love everyoine and think babies and mums are great and i love puppies and flowers and every immigrant is running from certain death and should be given a 3 bed house in Highgate and all homeles people are legit and isnt life amazing and so it Hilary clinton and unicorns"

and all the younger, non-life-jaded members who are yet to see the world for what it really is giving it millions of thumbs up
