Spoiler:

...also the reference to Teddy having died thousands of times...yep, he's Kenny.....

Oh definitely, the movie was way ahead of it's time

:joker: Poor Teddy. I admit I found it hilarious (in a cruel way) when Dr Ford flat out told him they never even bothered to give him a backstory  :worry:

.....I did think about your Kenny comment with those scenes and smiled probably more than I would have....it's fascinating as well really...(not so much the original movie but with the series..)...how they're exploring (some) of the makers actually seeing their projects as human as well.../the guy who was reluctant to make the cut with the knife and kind of winced a bit when Anthony Hopkins did....

Oh I agree, I loved that scene. It would be a bit one-dimensional if all of the Westworld staff were apathetic towards the feelings of the Hosts so I really like that they're having us see that some of them do have reservations about the way they're treated (the same goes for the guests with people like William providing a different representation).

I also find Dr Ford's conflicting attitude towards the Hosts interesting. He has friendly chats over drinks with that old retired cowboy Host and talks about them in a way that suggests respect (and there was that line in the last ep when he alluded to the Hosts forgetting everything as being a mercy for them) but then we had the scene where he didn't feel the undressed Host needed to be covered and cut his face to prove he couldn't feel it. I read a theory that he feels more sympathy for them than he lets on and overcompensates for it (as with the scene with the face cut), I could see that tbh. But yeah, I love how morally ambiguous they've made him.

Also I'm fully a believer of the "Bernard is a Host" theory now (I'm in full conspiracy theory mode, so yes I think his "wife" he was having a video chat with is just part of his storyline)

Ohhhh I like that Bernard theory

(I've caught up now, I'm hooked)

It's really bringing back that Lost vibe for me with how layered and mysterious it all is and how the internet is full of theories :flutter:

Also episode 3 scored the highest ratings of the season so far :clap2:

BYE he's fun :idc:

That whole sequence from when she woke up and escaped the operation table was captivating :clap2:

Also was it just me that **** myself when the stray host picked up the rock or

Maeve

I love her sardonic, dry comments even when her bar's being ambushed or a dead guy's being tied up outside :joker:

I just thought he was gonna try to kill Elsie and Thor's Brother would stop him in time, a little taken aback when he started beating himself to death :omgno:

Oh and I creased up at that female guest freaking out during the battle, "Oh my ****ING GOD!!!" :laugh2:

The ending with Dolores running up to William and Logan sort of damages the William = Man in Black 30 years ago theory but I'm not abandoning it just let, they could have sneakily shoved in a scene of Dolores running from something else 30 years ago to throw us off (or not and she'd probably have a different role back then but I love the theorising so let me live).

Spoiler:

..I always overthink these things in my theories...(which is why I'm usually completely wrong.....)...but I think that there are very few who aren't hosts/maybe none at all....and the AI is so advanced that it has created and is repairing/reprogramming etc what were the makers...but who are long dead over time...because if it didn't create new then it couldn't sustain either so it has self protected by duplicating...

I've actually read similar theories elsewhere about everyone being Hosts. And they did reference "management" having an agenda in the first episode so I could definitely see that with all the staff actually being robots and part of an elaborate experiment ran by the higher-ups

Lostie! 21-10-2016 08:15 PM

Ooh this is really cool, I never noticed. Someone on Reddit pointed out that an earlier version of Armistice (Hector Escaton's gunslinger partner) seemed to appear in that flashback when Dr Ford was talking about the early days of Westworld

They also showed her when Ford and Bernard were discussing the Bicameral Mind and how some of the Hosts became "lunatics", since she's a main character who's had very little screen time so far I'd bet this is relevant in the future.

The Host who welcomed William to the park briefly appeared in the same sequence too. I love little things like this that I didn't pick up myself

I'm loving this :flutter:

Shaun 23-10-2016 02:12 AM

Just watched episode one and hmm... it left me a little uncomfortable... in a good way.

It seems quite inspired by several video games - the wavering AI stuff reminds me a lot of Fallout 3 and Bioshock: Infinite.

Quite enjoyed playing "what was he in?" (Beetee from the Hunger Games, that guy from Murder, She Wrote, Karl from Love Actually) but am intrigued by the actresses I didn't know anything of. Not sure I've seen Dolores, Elsie or Theresa in anything before but their characters interest me.

It's just the right mix of unsettling/intriguing. Just hope it doesn't go too mind****y.

Lostie! 23-10-2016 10:40 AM

I actually read that they said they were inspired by Bioshock  (along with Red Dead Redemption and GTA).

Shaun 24-10-2016 05:43 PM

I was about to say I'm all caught-up now but only seen episode 3. DLing 4 now :ninja2:

Liam Hemsworth's character is irritating and a little pointless atm, not to mention Ben Barnes' and whatever the name of that storyline writer guy is again.

But looking over the plot of the original film and Logan/William seem to be based on the two main 'protagonists' (if you can call Logan that) and I would assume Ed Harris' character is based on the original villain.

Film spoilers:
Spoiler:

And if the plot of the film has any play in this I shan't be annoyed with Barnes for much longer :pipe: he gets deaded.

I was originally just disliking him because he reminds me a HELL of a lot of the guy I used to like but yeah then he went a bit mental with that old treasure hunter's hand and yeah **** THAT guy.

Loving Maeve, Elsie and Ford the most. I find the Man in Black intriguing as well but a little bit of a dick.

Lostie! 24-10-2016 05:47 PM

I watched episode 4 earlier.
Spoiler:

I read a theory on Reddit the other week that Armistice was the snake mentioned in the riddle, cool that it was actually right :clap1:

She's probably the character I'm growing most intrigued by since she's not been at the forefront of the show as of yet but she's clearly going to be important.

The Man in Black knowing Arnold is interesting  And the offhand mention of his "foundation", so he's clearly some big businessman in his real life.

She's brilliant

I really love the idea of the Hosts interpreting the men in hazmat suits as sinister creatures from another world and that the Native Americans worship them as deities. I assume this means they've been having memories they're not supposed to be having also, I'd guess them remembering the staff entering the park isn't part of their scheduled story

The scene with Maeve and Clementine getting shot and the hazmat guys dragging them away was really well done, so unnerving. And Maeve having loads of the same drawing of them :worry:

And since it's a weekly tradition ... POOR TEDDY

:joker: :worry:
