His post wasn't about adoption, it was about being treated equally. Your reply made no sense.

Hia reply was about everyone being tteated equally in a thread predominantly about gay adoption..what does age have to do with that? Remembering that adam brought it up first.:joker:

Maybe because Sam expected respect from Adam purely because he was 60 odd and Adam is younger?

Lstan 06-01-2017 12:31 PM

Not nice when the shoes on the other foot is it.

Strange how people mention tolerance but want to block anyone with a view opposite to their own. As much as I disagree with what Colleen said here I don't see why she isn't entitled to her views. Also she wasn't comparing homosexuality to ISIS, she was just saying if a privately owned business wants to turn away a customer due to feeling whatever they're being asked to do is against their beliefs then they should have that right. Like how a Caribbean music group turned down an event for Winston McKenzie due to disliking the rhetoric used by some UKIP members.

Granted a gay wedding cake is a symbol of love and politics generally isn't, but it's just the same principle of turning away business.

I suppose the problem with it is it isn't a fair comparison because ISIS are a terrorist organisation which is an illegal organisation

A fairer comparison would be if it's ok to say gay marriage is against my beliefs would it also be ok to turn away a cake for an interracial couples wedding because you don't agree with that?

Vicky. 06-01-2017 01:19 PM

Oh dear...

Though I am in two minds about the cake thing, I have to admit. On the one hand it seems ridiculous to refuse to bake a cake because you disagree with the message on it. On the other hand, is it really that different to churches being able to refuse to perform gay marriage ceremonies because of their personal beliefs? Not totally sure where I stand on it, though oddly enough I have strong feelings about the B&B that turned away gay couples. And a shop is not much different to a B&B

The rest of her comments are disgusting though. I wonder if BB will throw her under the bus the way they did with that Winston guy...doubt it somehow.

I completely agree in that her comparison was pretty shoddy. Comparing disapproving of love to disapproving of terrorism is a stretch by any standards, but to me it's just that whole question of free speech. The interracial couple example would've been ideal, and although to me (someone who has had negative reception to being in an interracial relationship) it's an abhorrent view, Id just take my business elsewhere and accept their decision to lose money based on an irrational view. Hanging people out to dry for their views like they did with Winston just isn't the way forward to dealing with this, and it just feels like doing so will fuel even more hatred as it allows these individuals to play the victim. I mean I never thought id say it but I actually felt sorry for Winston by the end of it all, and it really shouldn't have been that way because he's an ass.

And people are allowed to comment on it.

Saying 'it's her's/my/whomever's opinion is not some sort of magical shield to prevent an opinion from being discussed by others. Opinions work both ways.

I've never forgiven Coleen for her bizarre claim on Radio 2 that "all people who think the McCanns might be guilty are mentally ill."

She is one of those typical morons that have been given a bigger platform than she would ever deserve or merit. And she thinks her opinions are important. She is a complete dullard and atrocious singer, with a career that died 35 years ago.

I do agree with this, despite my previous post. And I actually do agree with her regarding the bakery thing.

Hmm. Never thought she was homophobic. Strange.

Was'nt gay marriage also illegal in Ireland at the time of the cake thing?
