Err, I would not. I would say exactly the same thing.

What do you think of the labour guy saying this is the best thing that happened to May?

I think that those in change of the Conservative election campaign will be absolutely all over this to find every possible way that it can be used to gain additional votes. That's all I'll say on it.

Can i come stay?

Braden 23-05-2017 10:10 PM

I'm in London for the whole day on Thursday. I'm feeling a little sick rn.

TomC 23-05-2017 10:15 PM

I'm in Edinburgh all this week and I'm on edge now. Why did I have to be in a big city alone in such an awful week

AnnieK 23-05-2017 10:32 PM

The girls in my office were telling me not to go into Manchester today....particularly after the Arndale was evacuated but honestly it was fine.

Yes but I'm honestly too close to all this to feel comfortable it's sad

Redway 23-05-2017 11:23 PM

It's a standard warning at a time like this. Precautionary.

Well I travel through London a ridiculous number of time to get from a to b, and transport is targeted in these situations. Iunderstand that living there makes it more terrifying, but anyone is under threat of a terrorist attack at any time whether they're visiting on a trip, passing through, or living in the city.

Greg! 23-05-2017 11:25 PM

Not sure I agree with putting the army on the streets. Deploy armed police sure, but I think seeing soldiers on your way to work etc could be really unsettling and have the opposite effect on the public that it's supposed to. Idk it's just a slippery slope.

Glenn. 23-05-2017 11:37 PM

I would find it reassuring at a time like this

Yep. I didn't really want to elaborate when I mentioned it earlier, but Lynton Crosby is going to exploit this for all the political capital it is worth. It shouldn't be that way, but it will be, and I think it's worth noting it. There are no depths he will not sink to, and I feel sick just thinking about it.

The campaign hadn't yet stepped into gear anyway, with Murdoch and Dacre sitting on frontpages of IRA crap waiting for the call. But you best believe within a week, the 'threat to national security line' will have returned, she'll be stood in front of step and repeat boards honing in on it, and the tabloid press will launch the biggest assault on a political leader in recent history. The landslide is back on.

Out of interest, does anyone know the legalities involved in postponing or indeed cancelling an election? Presumably the latter can't happen because parliament has been desolved but I'm sure someone knows the intricacies. This election really is futile now, I wish we could forget it. Nobody needs it.

Good bit of 'unbiased' labour campaigning there! :nono: After all no one could ever believe that of Corbyn - purer than the driven snow that one, not!

Marsh. 24-05-2017 12:06 AM

Are people really using this to have another argument about political parties?

Wow.

Jack_ 24-05-2017 12:11 AM

I'm not having any argument. I'm just pointing out what is going to happen.

This appalling incident will be politicised (on all sides, I should make clear) when all is said and done, I find that disgusting, but it is naive and futile to pretend otherwise.

youre politicizing it before anyone else

Rob! 24-05-2017 12:13 AM

Perhaps worth noting that a terror attack didn't mean the National Front is now in charge of France?

This is not the original Manchester thread. I find those trying to use every thread in any way related to the tragedy to Play the holier than thou card by attempting to belittle the posters they regularly disagree with contrived, manipulative and crass. Get over yourself. It isn't a good look.

Belittle posters I regularly disagree with?

Pipe down son, I didn't even see any of your posts. I'm referring to any and ALL posts using this tragedy to score points over the election campaign. It's sick. And most certainly not a good look.

I never said it was the original thread, by "this" I meant the actual incident itself.

Well, actually, I wasn't the first one to make the point in this thread. Did you bother to read it before you quoted this post?

True, but in fairness to them the Tories aren't on the same level as the National Front. This is a whole different ballgame.

It's a discussion that should probably only be had when the campaign resumes anyway. I just saw a post I agreed with and wanted to point out what I think is on the horizon.
