However, this word is illegal, if I said it, I'd be arrested. So I expect she'll be arrested too, right?

Oh but it can. Verbal bullying is a very real thing and is known to cause more long term harm than physical bullying. When someone is called a name, especially if they are called names repeatedly, it can affect that persons identity, impact their mood and even affect their mental and physical health.

I don't believe anyone should have to face being called horrible names on a daily basis.

But it's not a wrong? She was reciting the kind of racial terminology that is used to abuse her, in the same way that Big Brother does verbatim when they're quoting an inappropriate remark back to the housemate they're punishing for saying it. Context is important and she, as a black woman, is well within her rights to repeat it.

Headie 14-09-2017 04:52 PM

I can't @ the DailyMail article making out like she's some racist psycho when all she did was literally repeat the words used by the racists psychos targeting her.

Do you get death threats on a daily basis?.. I don't and I don't know anyone who does.

In my view she wasn't wrong, she was invited to discuss this issue, that's what she did.

If some 'snowflakes' can't handle the language she has to tolerate on the daily then they should stick to the shopping channel or something, GMB is clearly too much for them.

I know, but say if I was an MP and was recieving abuse I wouldn't say the words "fuqing queer fagg" on TV you know there's better ways to get around these things. Although I'm the type of person who doesn't care about abuse and wouldn't go on about it because as long as it's not threatening and I don't need to inform the police (which she should be doing) then frankly I can move on from it.

No it's quite the opposite, I'm not opposed to the words themselves, moreso the fact that she repeated them. The N word is horrible anyway and I think there needs to be real discussion surrounding the use of the word because frankly I think NOBODY should use it because it becomes a problem when it starts to become a word that only one group of ethnicity can say.

Tbf You probably aren't choosing to live your life in the public eye either.

jaxie 14-09-2017 05:36 PM

I don't like Diane Abbot and think she is a hypocrite but the news here seems to be more a case of taking what she said out of context than anything else.

Vicky. 14-09-2017 05:38 PM

Yeah there is obviously a bloody huge difference between her repeating the kind of abuse she gets to let people know about it, and her using those terms TO someone.

However, a filter is kind of needed with this woman  She doesn't seem to have one. Early morning TV is hardly the time or place to be saying things like this. Could very easily say 'racist and sexist abuse' without repeating the exact terms...

You should try being black and called a ***** every day then..

Anyway, I'm glad she didn't censor it. If people sat in their homes are uncomfortable with it then at least it has let them know what Black people in the public eye put up with at times.

I don't like Abbott but I don't much like censorship either.I think this is a storm in a teacup.Someone said "****" on The Wright Stuff the other day but I didn't see that all over the news.
Whatever we think of Diane Abbott she doesn't deserve to be racially abused.Nobody does.

This post has racial undertones :umm2:

The reason why black people are so offended by white people using it is because its what they have been called when they have been slaves and fighting for equal rights.

White people have no rights to this word and are not allowed to use it and anyone that does use it well they are clearly racist

Loukas 15-09-2017 11:28 AM

I don't know if it's more amusing or sad that some people on here are totally blinded by their white privilege!

I'm against racism as much as anybody but this millenial SJW concept of 'white privilege' is bs.
Specially when some of the richest people in the world are black.

The problem with this hard left concept is that they want equality of outcome over equality of opportunity.
It's an excuse to place responsibility for their own bad life choices on the entire white race.It is a racist concept. The millions of white homeless people would be offended by such a suggestion.
There is definitely class inequality but that's a different subject.
