Book/Cook/Brook/Shook/Hook etc (almost any word ending with “ook”)

Is pronounced with a uck sound x

E.g Buck, Cuck, Bruck, Shuck, Huck

Babayaro. 17-09-2017 06:18 PM

Absolutely wrong.

:joker: I pronounce that one normally :fist: it's the book's and cook's I get weird looks for, for not pronouncing them cuck and buck (from Londoners... because they're wrong!)

But saying 'took' instead of 'tuck' isn't?

No, because that's the correct way to say it.

So you say it like “tuke”?

Has anyone got any audio or video evidence of book being pronounced 'buck'? I've never heard of such a thing.

Nobody pronounces them cuck or buck. They pronounce them cook and book rather than cewk and bewk :suspect:

MB. 17-09-2017 07:06 PM

Like, can we stop this whole buck vs bewk thing because neither of them are how you actually say it ya silly sods

Ashley. 17-09-2017 07:11 PM

Book.

Ashley. 17-09-2017 07:13 PM

No pronunciation is wrong, anyway. It just depends where you're from.

Oh I don't actually say "bewk" irl. I just chose that one bc it's the closest option to actually being right lol.

Ugh, the bullying of the superior Northern English is absolutely harrowing on here. </3

Withano 18-09-2017 12:09 AM

Withano 18-09-2017 12:11 AM
