We don't always agree, you and I Chuff, but I totally agree with you on this. All my gay friends are just part of the wider community, with a mixture of friends... I don't understand why people would want to section themselves off in the way some gay people want. Everyone has opinions, if we're going to scrutinise everyone to make sure they're views are "acceptable" before deciding whether they're good or bad, we're all going to be pretty lonely.

I didn’t say it was ALL we are. I said it’s a big part. And I honestly believe it is. Like I already stated if you spend 17/18 years in the closet. Denying who you are. Then having to come out. Then finding your tribe. It’s going to affect your life.

Why does your "tribe" need to change from the set of friends and family you already have? I don't know a single person through "being LGBT", but I do have LGBT friends I picked up along the way through living my life.

I don’t spend my time in gay bars and clubs either. Not very often anyway. I still consider myself a part of the wider gay community.

And I will always judge people on their views and opinions. It’s who they are. If I meet someone at a bus stop and have a pleasant conversation I’m not going to pursue a friendship with said person if they start spouting rubbish about foreigners coming over and stealing our jobs. Or talking about banging birds or any of the usual stuff you hear from your average bigot.

Exactly. It’s a ridiculous conceit it’s it?

Lilac hills 28-01-2018 11:03 PM

Ik a lot of gay people who only hang around with other gay people, me myself I haven’t let it really dictate social groups or anything because I don’t think it should. People are people. I like a person for their whole package not just a common sexuality

No it's a ridiculous analogy but you carry on making them up.

Amanda especially just refuses to accept that people like Anne could have made her life very different if they had gotten their way. Just like India she refuses to acknowledge the work of gay people who have come before her. Things like this matter.

“I’m fine dear, nothing to do with me” The attitude stinks. She has lived her life as somewhat of a pampered celebrity so yeah, maybe she hasn’t been affected so much but the rights she now holds certainly have.

Shane mentioned women’s rights and the Amanda’s first response is “and men’s rights!” Says it all really. She’s the sort of person to respond to “black lives matter” with “all lives matter”. Missing the point completely.

It all makes me very sad, especially coming from older gay people.

You have struck the nail on the head eloquently. Yes, had Ann got her way there would have been NO equal marriage nor age of Consent for Gay men. I cannot believe how both Wayne and Amanda shove their heads in the sand. They're a disgrace to the LGBT Community to which neither clearly now belong!

I’m the same as you. Not much changed with the people I had around me. Luckily. But I’ve worked with LGBT societies at uni and with charities and in community centres for years and there are tons and tons of kids who’s whole lives get turned upside down when they come out.

Not everyone is as lucky as us. And these people a lot of the time creat their own family’s within the gay community. It’s a very common thing

So people who are not haters are thrown out of the "community".

Nice

It’s a perfectly sound analogy that you have thus far refused to actually address. But that’s fine.

I think the implication was more that they have purposely removed themselves from said community

Wait, what?

So you don’t believe homophobia is a even a thing? Or am I wildly missing your point?

But there is now, why keep on about it

You might have a point if it didn't happen but it has

Wayne and Amanda know more about the Gay life by the very choice of their careers in the entertainments industry, Gay rights didn't start when LGTB came on the scene.

Why an Australian drag queen can think he knows more than two worldly people who have lived many more years and have much more experience is arrogant nonsense. Amanda said she knew Danny La Rue who would knock Shane J act into next year if he was still alive.

Going round in circles as someone wrote on here, recently, gets you nowhere.

No, that's not what I meant. I was saying that neither now considered themselves part of the LGBT Community - nobody was throwing them out?!

In other words they both appeared to be so unbothered that they'd aligned themselves to an arch homophobe, who voted over both their rights to marry a same sex partner, that they didn't consider themselves as Gay. This is referred to as being 'self loathing' - where a person cannot properly come to terms with their 'sexuality' and instead rebels internally and sides with homophobes.

Can't you see they have risen above all that and got to know the person.

What is so hard to understand.

Neither Amanda or Wayne can be thought of a self loathing, where did that come from, two more people at terms with their sexuality and lifestyle would be hard to find.

They are not so dogmatic or judgmental that they have to keep bashing others over the head to agree with them.

Would others copy them and just be happy.

Once again we agree but the trouble with a lot of gays who bang on about wanting equality is that they actually want the opposite, they hate the idea of being equals, they want to stand out as being different and be given special treatment, they will try and cause division at every chance they get, bleating on about their rights all the time, they neither want to or have any intention of fitting in, they are some of the worst bigots I know and like Shane J they do not represent me.

I so agree, they ask for equality, get it and then want to stretch the boundaries and become special.

No one is special.

its your individuality that defines you, if you attach yourself to a cause, its entirely the right of the individual to do that, but they then become part of the herd and lose their individuality. They think and behave like a single organism losing their individuality. It may be nice for people that can't think and act for themselves, but it doesn't leave any room for growing as a person. It is a shallow existence

'They are BEST representation, they keep quiet and don't acknowledge the problems that the non-majority have so I don't find them threatening.'

As for the rest of your post, people fighting for equal rights and for the right to not be scared that they will be without family or friends or a roof over their heads if they dare share their truth are not 'whining' or 'self absorbed'. You have no ****ing clue what it's like and you lack the empathy to ever understand it. You should be thankful for the former but saddened by the latter, your life would be richer for it if you could empathise with people outside of your own viewpoints and situation.
