I don't see the #Metoo movement being very vocal about what's been happening in Telford.

I suspect these working-class girls are the wrong kind of victims, and the abusers are the wrong kind of perpetrators.

What does a movement focused on sexual abuses in Hollywood got to do with something that happened in Telford?

Considering she has a platform, that wouldn't be a bad idea.

That's like asking why a charity aimed at the elderly in this country isn't focussed on a homeless old lady in Australia.

Exactly  but that seems to be the argument used alot (especially to do with feminism mostly in a what about the men context)

What about the millions of other incidents across the world? Does she need to be a voice for them all too or just the ones you feel she should be?

Alf 13-03-2018 03:25 PM

I seem to be the person that has done wrong here.

Well 3 people have replied since my post and all 3 seem to be disagreeing with me.

Why can't the metoo movement get on the telly and call this out for what it is?

Well because that's not exactly what the metoo movement was for, you could say why don't they come on telly and call out any number of things to try and minimise what their purpose was but you could say that about literally anything. Like why doesn't the dogs trust come out and speak about abused cats cos that's worse or why don't the fire service come go out on strike for nurses because they have worse conditions etc etc

Well then fcuk the metoo movement. I couldn't give a shiney sh!te about some Hollywood sluts pimping themselves out for work. It's not as sickening as children as young as 11 being groomed, drugged, beaten, raped and killed. So maybe the next self awarding show they have, they could bring this up, because it's actually happening today.

By the way, what on Earth are you talking about with dogs and abused cats? Silly!

Well people tend to campaign to change things they can actually affect. The likes of Oprah Winfrey have the position and the power to change things within the industry she actually works.

What exactly she'd have to do with whatever is going on in Telford is beyond anyone.

Also there's always "worse" going on somewhere else, does that mean everyone should stop trying to progress and change things for the better wherever and however they can within their lives/careers/industries.

Time's Up is already a global movement about workplace abuse and sexism, not just within the film industry.

But something tells me you wouldn't be making these irrelevant comments about it had it been a male lead campaign. Calling them all "sluts" speaks volumes.
