So... you will only discuss with people who will change their minds to line up with yours and who won't question what you're suggesting?

So, "Here's a serious debate, but no debate please".

:joker: I knew this forum was getting laughable but this takes the biscuit.

No, just folk that dont argue for the sake of arguing.

Youve obviously no interest in the subject as you find the idea so ridiculous.

Why would i waste my energy?...gnight.

So, you don't want a debate then?

So quite why you started one in the debates section is a mystery to everyone.

I fixed the front page. I did wonder why everyone was having a go.

Marsh. 26-03-2018 10:35 PM

So that raises two questions.

1) Why didn't you start the thread with a news story if you wanted discussion on that? Rather than a debate question you were providing.

and

2) What drew your attention to a news article four and a half years old?

So you don't actually want to debate the topic? The topic you posted in the Serious Debates section?

Fair enough. Maybe you should've just left it and responded appropriately later on or in the morning. The thread will still be here.

I edited that.

People should not be forced to do something against their will.

It's kind of common sense.

Niamh. 27-03-2018 09:10 AM

Absolutely not

The army doesn't want conscripts. You have to be educated to be in today's army, they only take people with good grades... the last thing the Services want is a bunch of disengaged, resentful teenagers.

:clap1: My thoughts exactly.

Morgan. 27-03-2018 10:09 AM

The issue is that teens are forced to do a lot more now compared to before when this was around and have tons more pressure - having to take 30 odd exams in a 2/3 week period, than having to remain in education for at least 2 more years amongst other things. These things make sine teens lives misery so you want to make it worse? Sure.

Every generation claims their teenage years are harder than everyone else's. And they're not. Wait till you're older and you experience a plethora of more important things that you will then have to worry about.

That's not relevant though?

Whatever hardships he faces when he's older, he'll face them as an older (and hopefully wiser) adult. He's talking about the life of teenagers.

Is that true? And if so is it a relatively new thing (as in the last 15 year or less)? Because there are people I went to school with who are in the army and... well... let's just say I know for a fact that they didn't get good grades :umm2:. I know of a guy who drives tanks now and it's a thought that terrifies me to my very core, because based on school I think it'd be risky to put him on a moped.

user104658 27-03-2018 01:53 PM

It has been psychologically proven that conscripts make crappy soldiers in general, though, which is why modern armies just don't do it.
