Maybe Sally accidentally heard the spirits of medieval scotts telling her to get out and she thought it was a living person shouting at her

fred7853 20-08-2018 04:15 AM

Maybe like us she is sick of idiots like sturgeon banging on about it.

Never, ever would I back up Sally but we were in Aviemore when the referendum was on ,and the morning after the result came through we went for breakfast and we had a man speaking loudly blaming the "Effing English " for Brexit vote..seemingly forgetting the Scots voted too

:hmph:

It has to be utter BS though, my wife is English and has lived here for 7 years, and has never been mocked for her accent... other than by me, playfully, of course :joker:.

Also I work in a busy bookmakers in a pretty rough town and have never even HEARD anyone take the piss out of people with Engliah accents and we have plenty of English regulars. Plus one of my co-workers is English... and has lived here for 40 years (managing somehow to not lose her accent at all) and people don't even mock HER accent. Which is really incredible as everyone mocks her for pretty much everything else :hehe:.

There's some gentle ribbing if England are playing in any major tournaments and that's pretty much the extent of it .

Basically I think the main reason it has to be BS is that it would rely on hearing English accents being "unusual" in Scotland. But... LOADS of English people live here... plus there's a lot of tourism... so hearing all sorts of accents isn't unusual at all .

Actually...

Wait...

Maybe she went to Ayrshire. If it was Ayrshire... tbh yeah it might be true. Hahaha.

Yes, 62% remain. So... we were dragged into it by England, that's a mathematical fact, however I do get what you're saying as it's hardly the fault of "just" the English nor is it the fault of every English person (again, my wife is English, lives in Scotland, and voted Remain). But I guess allowances have to be made for emotions running high, what with the country circling the drain and all.

We've been to Scotland every year for years on holiday, the worst place we experienced it was in Ullapool ( North Highlands ) and the lady we hired the cottage from said it had taken the locals years and years to accept an English family buying a cottage up there ,she said things got slightly better after 8-9 yrs but still some locals ignored her ,she had had letters posted through her door telling them to leave

The NW highlands is the "Deep South of Scotland" to be fair. It definitely wouldn't happen in the "tourist highlands" (East coast / Inverness etc.)

Inverness is, however, absolutely full of junkies . I think that's where the Loch Ness Monster myth came from. Some guy hallucinating whilst smacked off his tits.

Northern Monkey 20-08-2018 08:48 AM

Sally was doing the SNP’s work for them

user104658 20-08-2018 08:52 AM

And, not that it makes it any better etc etc etc, but when I lived and worked in Lancashire for two years, I was on the receiving end of a LOT of accent mocking... as well as being called "Jock" and asked "Where's your kilt??" at least twice a week. But again being fair, it was backwater Lancashire, and I'm pretty sure most people didn't marry outwith their bloodline let alone their county :hee:. Plus it was intended to be goodnatured... usually... there was that guy who wanted to "Drag me outside and jump up and down on my head, Jock!"... :umm2:

I've never experienced anything negative in any "proper" town or city in England.

Inverness is terrible now, weve seen it go downhill over the years we've been going to Aviemore and we've gone into the town for shopping in the centre there , but I live in northern England and we have the same drug problems here ,We are going to Kilmichael near Oban next month to do a tour of the islands (Mull,Iona etc ) Cant wait !! Its a new area for us

My Granddaughter went last Thursday/Friday and had never heard of the congestion charge, she got caught as her hotel was central so it cost her twice, once going in and once coming out :joker:

She had every right to say what she did...it wasn't offensive. She simply said she had come across many Scotsman who didn't like being part of the UK and there are many that dislike the English for whatever reason...she just said if they want their own country let them have it...nothing offensive about that.
