Binged this over two nights, fantastic series over all although I wasn't entirely happy with the ending

Twosugars 04-01-2019 02:41 PM

it wasn't the original ending according to the makers, Niamh
they changed it to make it happier

Oh really? I must have a google

Niamh. 04-01-2019 03:01 PM

Ohhhhh just googled the original ending, that would have fit so much better

Spoiler:

Although tbf I never even noticed the weird window that let you know that it was the Red Room rather than reality

Tom4784 04-01-2019 03:47 PM

I liked the ending a lot, probably would have been more predictable and typical for a horror if it ended with them all trapped in the house.

Niamh. 04-01-2019 03:50 PM

Yeah I know but it just felt like it didn't really fit properly with the mood of the rest of the series

Niamh. 04-01-2019 03:51 PM

It was brilliant though over all, went through it so fast.

Spoiler:

Nell being the bendy neck lady herself was so mind blowing, I was thinking all along, maybe it was her mother cos they didn't show how she died till way later

Not even at the end when it showed you the window?

Come ON Niamh, look alive!! :oh:

Twosugars 04-01-2019 05:55 PM

Hope they do more, they said they might do, but not this house

A prequel with the Hills could be good

Tom4784 04-01-2019 07:27 PM

I'm completely against another season if it means continuing the story of the cranes or Hill House because it would mean revealing too much and ruining the mystery of why Hill House is the way it is.

The story was pretty much perfect as is, they should just let it end on a high note rather than risk ruining what they've build needlessly.

An anthology series "The Haunting of _____" is the only acceptable option for a sequel season.

different locations, different characters

Too Soap Opera-y for me personally.

What on earth was soap opera-y about it?

Renewed for S2 but as an anothology so similar to AHS, different story/characters/actors etc

Twosugars 21-02-2019 05:01 PM

good news

Tom4784 22-02-2019 01:09 PM

The new series is called 'The Haunting of Bly Manor' and is based on the book 'The Turn of the Screw'.

Meh, studied this in a 1st year Uni English Lit module... I wasn't the biggest fan tbh. Hopefully it's modernised, which could be a fun twist on it, it's an interesting enough story and in roughly the same vein as Hill House (IIRC you never find out explicitly if there are real ghosts, or if the central character has gone mad and is hallucinating).

But I'm not overly interested if it's going to be set in the Victorian era. Would rather it just be "based on" but updated with modern characters.

I imagine it'll be a similar deal to the first season and the book it's based on. Modernised settings with the characters completely reimagined from what they were in the book.

I wonder if they'll change the ending like they did Hill House... I hope so personally as knowing the ending ruins the suspense.

Spoiler:

In Turn of the Screw, IIRC the woman (who is seeing ghosts everywhere) believes that the little boy is being controlled by ghosts and believes she has "freed" him from their control while clinging to him, then realises he's died. Left ambiguous if he's dead because the ghosts really were controlling him and his own spirit was already gone (so ghost leaves = dead body) or if she was just nuts, he was never possessed, and she accidentally killed him whilst "freeing him"

Tom4784 23-02-2019 02:46 PM

I think it will after all the ending of the first season was completely different to that of the book, in fact the only similarities were the character names and the location.
