I agree with BOTH of these points of views actually as yes there are some members of the crowd who find it hard to locate their brains, (the rent-a-crowd brigade) but they were also speaking for a majority of people who do not like Charley.

It was said that when the Argentinian General Belgrano was sunk during the Falklands conflict, with massive loss of life because it's escorts did not stay around to pick up survivors, there was no cheering on British ships or the submarine that had been ordered to sink her. Our sailors felt the loss of fellow sailors, even if they were on the other side.

They had a job to do, but at the end of the day there was no gloating

When someone falls, we feel loss, and to gloat over the fallen would be beyond the pale.
