it was years ago when he was a journalist, pretty sure if he was slurping a can of lager on the tube yesterday there would be a similar outcry about it, this is Michael Gove we are talking about, he isn't particularly liked

Well, i'm a conservative supporter and I have stated categorically that it's unacceptable to me for someone being the new PM

I do think he has been scuppered :D:

joeysteele 09-06-2019 08:17 AM

Well on a TV programme Boris indicated he likely had too.
Along with Rory's once as a guest at a function, Michael Gove, and now incredibly the awful Leadsom too plus Raab.

I'd not be surprised near all politicians have at some time.
It's ridiculous to hold things like this against anyone.

Shows an unbelievable intolerance, to me anyway, in this day and age.

smudgie 09-06-2019 09:03 AM

All the back stabbing coming out now.
Can’t stand Gove, but the fact he took drugs 20 years ago would make no difference to me.

bots 09-06-2019 09:37 AM

it's so obvious the knives are out, it's great

Gove surely could not have thought he would not get payback for what he did to Boris at the last leadership election.

As a tory supporter, I don't like a single one of the current candidates, and I didn't like May either, right from the start. I do believe the tory party is a spent force now, they are way passed the point of recovery. It's a sad state of affairs when my thoughts are turning toward the lib dems as the only option i could even consider voting for.

bots 09-06-2019 11:10 AM

Gove was in full bullsheite mode on Marr .... The grovelling was impressive

He has now been reported to the Police
to be Investigated for a Crime in 1993?

Just on LBC Radio.

Bit pointless; unless he was the kind of scumbag to push drugs on kids, what is there to achieve from investigating some historic casual drug use?

Withano 09-06-2019 06:54 PM

It is odd to see how all those who were outraged at Abbott having a cheeky mojito in public are suddenly fine with Gove’s possession and use of a class A drug.

Like people dont even try to be consistent.

I mean, I won't even sit here and pretend I am well versed on British politics, but I don't find this to be that big a deal. Especially because it was 20 years ago. There's a very large amount of people who have tried it or know someone who has. It's just not that important to know in my opinion.

...so first the case against Boris ...and now this ‘reveal’...surely it’s all just well timed stuff to be knocked out of the leadership battle and possibly he knew it was going to be made public so decided to say first...

it was going to appear in a book with some newspaper features, so he had no choice

I don't like any of the candidates, but each one is better than Corbyn ... just that isn't saying much. At the end of the day democracy elected Trump with all his faults widely known, so I do wonder if things like this are actually a bad thing any more .... they get the publicity which seems more important than anything

...yeah I do agree there are slim pickings in politics atm sadly ...which is leading to he ‘anti establishment’, type vote...?...hence Trump, a significant part seemed to me to be that he wasn’t Hilary Clinton ...hmmmm, it’s an era of politics that worries me because it’s voting against rather than voting for.../..a negative vote and breeding a negative society...?...

If you excluded people on the basis that they did something daft when they were younger we wouldn't have anyone left.

I'm so bored of this story. I hate the Tories and I hate that smushy faced **** but this is such a nonstory. There's plenty of ways to nail that rat to the wall that doesn't involve faux offense over him snorting a bit of blow 20 years ago.

I really don't care about him doing coke 20 years ago I just find the "get over it" attitude very rich coming from the same people who almost had an aneurysm over a canned gin cocktail.
