Any excuse for some to have a snidey swipe reactions like this make the forum unhealthy and unfriendly but hey ho, nothing racist about it except for those who love to moan about everything and anything, we didn't even know what racist was then as it wasn't on our minds, maybe you should stop being ageist !!!

In fact i’m sure i’ve heard it used as a style of doing eye makeup before.
Seems like people looking to be offended again tbh.

A point that needs highlighted.

Where was I ageist babe? Clutching at straws are we?

You asked a question like "Who can honestly say they HAVEN'T sung racist songs and made slitty eyes for a laugh" and I simply replied that maybe it was acceptable in the olden times but certainly not now!

joeysteele 19-06-2019 07:50 PM

The point is, on lots of topics now today.
People do have to be careful of what they say.

What was acceptable decades ago is not now.

Saying something today no matter how harmlessly meant can get you into big problems.
If it's of another nationality or race.

You can near be branded racist, anti Semitic, or even of terrorist intention just on simple comments or who you may be looking at online as to organisations.

There used to be a figure on jam jars decades ago that is now banned.

Sadly, even commenting on a leader or government of a Country now can have you deemed as being against that whole Nation or people.

Whether we've all got too edgy or lost humour.
The fact is, it is easy to get into all sorts of difficulties now, for the slightest even throwaway comment.

Even as to things said probably decades ago too.

Then the likes of Nolan using her celebrity status to spout offensive rhetoric.
Doesn't help at all either.
Even worse she may get supported.

Firstly there was no need to answer in a patronising way , but I get you have no other way, secondly I am 41 if that was supposed to be an insult you were way off, it's nowhere near 'The olden days' besides you said the dark ages, short memory there, those were not my words and you know it I never mentioned slitty eyes , nor did I mention singing racist songs, YOU made it racist ,I didn't .

Nobody described anything as slitty eyes but you....and that word is a really really negative descriptive word in this instance.
Can you change it please it's pretty offensive.

Oh stop it ,we were but kids, the colour of skin never entered our heads ,plus the punch line to the rhyme was nothing to do with colour ,shape of eyes ,etc, it was fun because it was a tad rude and naughty ,simple as that c'mon marsh your better than this.

I will happily be branded as any one of those as long as I don't get arrested for saying what I say.

So if I'm not getting arrested for saying things...isn't it then harrasment to be labelled as these things?

Well said
And this attitude "oh it was ok back then so it must be ok now" is beyond the pale

No it's not harassment and that's a ridiculous conclusion with respect.

People do get in trouble for loose talk.
Lose careers and are pilloried in the media too, when their full and proper identities are known.

You may choose to possibly be happy to be branded, ( your words that not mine), racist, anti semitic whatever.
I certainly wouldn't..
It's not something I'd want to brag about or ever be myself.

Excuse me YOU are the one that said you ‘moved your eyes up and down’ to impersonate Asian people not me??? All I said was that no one really does it in the modern world and it’s not really acceptable nowadays?

I think the jo brand incident when you compare it to the danny baker incident as well as other things that I need to fact check first kind if shows that a debate is worthy wether or not certain things are seen as "isty" depending on the subject matter or who is saying the things.

Bit I'm not happy about being branded as this or that to be fair, but its a corner I've been sent to....but I'm not ever going to face the wall over it
