He's still being questioned and his home is being searched, I expect suing will be the least of his worries..

Didn't Josy say he was released without charge? I haven't seen the news yet, so I am going by Tibb fake news :hmph:

Beso 23-10-2019 09:17 PM

Mo the patsy...at least he had the decency to phone the authorities when he found out what he was carrying.

But due to public outcry he will be punished severely...poor ****.

maybe but he obviously checked the back and phoned for an ambulance straight off

It said on the News that he picked up a sealed container with his tractor unit. And some of his lorry driver mates said that it wasn't unusual for them to come to England and pick up a cargo.

Where it was found is a sleeping point for drivers..I know because my footsteps passed that very spot every morning for 4 years.

[The Bulgarian ministry of foreign affairs
said the Scania truck was
registered in Varna,
on the east coast of the country,
under the name of a company owned
by an Irish citizen.
Police said it was "highly unlikely"
the victims were Bulgarians, the ministry added.]

He was the Driver
Bulgaria to Essex

Twosugars 23-10-2019 10:50 PM

On second thoughts, it is strange papers just went ahead publishing his name just like that. The investigation has just begun. And why the initial charge was murder not manslaughter?
Odd.

Yes of course
well known zone

...the face of news media is becoming similar to the face of social media and it’s so potentially damaging to lives...it’s easy to connect the small amount of information to know who the driver was ...but that’s all that appears to be known...other than he’s giving whatever information he has to the police...which he obviously would...the police have said that the investigations will be very lengthy, that there is so much that is unknown atm...so it seems really bizarre that a murder charge is already being stated...we don’t even know if those poor people were living when their bodies entered the container...we barely know anything at all...there will be extensive investigations before even the police know anything...

...I’m not confident that any/all of those people will be able to be identified and their families informed, which is incredibly sad...

...on a separate note, it’s made me think also of those who do survive a journey in a container such as this...and as well as dehydration and physical issues resulting from the journey conditions...the emotional/psychological issues must quite often be unthinkable as well...all terrible sad...

Ammi 24-10-2019 04:57 AM

...the emotional support needed for the emergency services attending as well.../...horrendous for them.....

Cherie 24-10-2019 10:59 AM

No, that is surprising

Nicky91 24-10-2019 11:23 AM

i'd say if the driver is indeed guilty of murder, it would be ''multiple homicide'' and i guess for multiple homicides at least in america some get life sentences in prison

The political situation (Hong Kong's resistance) is going to make this much, much more common in the coming years. China has thus far done a very good job of keeping its main population "patriotic" and out of the loop, but the news about Hong Kong is spreading in China even with the Great Firewall in place. There are 1.4 billion people in china... if even 0.1% of them were to want to leave, that's well over a million people. Staggering numbers really.

Currently, I'm actually very surprised there aren't SIGNIFICANTLY more refugees coming in from Hong Kong. Actually, do we know if these "Chinese nationals" are actually from Hong Kong rather than "mainland" China?
