A much stronger start to S12! Glad Chibnall finally decided to stop being silly

Scarlett. 01-01-2020 10:55 PM

I'm gonna guess that this is who the Simm's Master regenerated into before Missy, seems a lot closer to him than Missy

Morgan. 01-01-2020 10:59 PM

Now THAT is how you do an opener :clap1:

I watched the rest, it was complete ****.

After watching a few episodes of older seasons recently, it highlights how Chibnall doesn't understand the Doctor's character at all and it's bothering me beyond anything that, out of all the doctors that's been so far, he chose the first female doctor to be an idiot that seemingly gets outplayed by everyone around her until she stumbles across a Deus-Ex-Machina in the last 10 minutes of an episode.

All the assistants are grating on me now, I liked Graham last season but even he is annoying me now. Yaz, even when given something to do is devoid of personality, there's just never a point in Ryan being there. I feel sad for Jodie Whitaker since she's stuck with terrible material but I'm not sure there's any redeeming the show as it is. Get rid of everyone and start over with a new showrunner and a doctor, hopefully another female one so a decent writer can actually write her well.

The master's dialogue was also cringeworthy. Chibnall's version of 'Missy=Mistress' is him mentioning a few minutes before the reveal that they have to find a spymaster because that has master in it... Ugh, such inept writing. I don't think I can bring myself to watch anymore. Even at his worst, Moffett was way better than this ****.

I will say this and Resolution were on the whole much better than Series 11 on a whole.

However, is it just me or does Jodie find herself in an "empty CGI wasteland" quite often since she started? And she's only had 12 episodes.

Chibnall relies on the same tropes all the time but he tries to cover it by having the character's call it out (like how that one guy asked is Graham's just there for the commentary) which is just doesn't work.

I am still astounded that he was given a second series, he has the writing ability of a D-grade GCSE student.

The ratings were not great but the highest rated show of the night on got 5m so seems like people just didnt watch TV

I thought it was a marked improvement on the whole of S11 tbh. Seems they’re throwing everything at this series this year, Master, Judoon, Cybermen and the Daleks again for the special for maybe Easter?

Scarlett. 02-01-2020 08:38 PM

I wonder if The Master could be behind UNIT shutting down?

Oliver_W 05-01-2020 07:07 PM

Yeah it was okay. Miles better than anything from S11.

Marsh. 05-01-2020 08:03 PM

Not sure about this Master yet. Or the Master in general.

To say Chibnall was all about treading new ground he's been very derivative so far. To bring the Master in when Capaldi's tenure was arched by a version of that character is lazy beyond belief imo.

Scarlett. 05-01-2020 08:50 PM

So much better than S11, I'm actually interested in what happens next now

Rob! 05-01-2020 08:58 PM

That was so so so much better than last week. I’m genuinely excited to see what comes out of this Gallifrey story.

Also, Missy always felt like a separate character away from the Master and this is the best the master has ever been. I’m excited again. Who knew Chibbers had it in him?

Scarlett. 05-01-2020 11:02 PM

One thing bothers me, in Hell Bent, I'm pretty sure its established that the Time Lords moved Gallifrey to the edge of the universe, give or take a system, they moved it out of the pocket universe...

Serving Empty Child. :flutter:

Let's hope Jodie helps set the tone and isn't Blue Peterish.
