Above ALL of that though he is a proud man. He worked all his life, played sports all his life, had a social life and now he is reduced to a prisoner in his home. Asking for help is something he has NEVER done before. He is being responsible, he is not going out, I am dropping food off in the porch - unable to give my dad a hug....I can see him declining already - its been 5 days. He tells me he is ok - he is going for a walk at 6am to maintain his fitness before he holes up for the day.

I am so sad for him and I miss him

But yeah - all oldies are bad

Btw, I apologized for my unfair generalization of all older people.
Since it was deleted I apologize again for the record.
I was letting off steam about one older person and went too far.

This sounds patronising, but it truly isn't meant to be, I am sincere: That's big of you.

Yeah same, still going in to work but there are only 2 of his in here and it's really quiet and we're keeping our distance. Gav also is still at work for now but they also have introduced strict regulations. Luke is at home and he's been getting work sent from school everyday and luckily we live on a beach so he's getting out for a walk everyday with the dog. He's been great about it all actually

Do you think that Irish kids will be back in school this school year? I know a lot of UK parents think that this year will be a write off and that UK kids won't go back until September.

Nicky91 19-03-2020 01:43 PM

No, because i don't have to, i don't have a social life before all this anyway :fan:

I don't think they will no

Jessica. 19-03-2020 01:52 PM

My city is completely locked down and we've been told we're literally not allowed to go out unless it's urgent. Only one of us is allowed to go into the supermarket sy my bf will be shopping for us, both of his parents and his grandma. I'll stay in the car on the phone to him, I would stay at home but I've already been indoors for ages and it's taking a toll on my mental health. BF going to be our hero today though.

Secondary school kids go on holiday 1st June a whole 6 weeks before UK kids and primary about two weeks later mid June so highly unlikely

I know you are stressed about your father in law, he should really consider the impact his daily shopping is having on you both

Cherie 19-03-2020 01:58 PM

Coming back to Annie, does your Dad use skype? if not maybe now is the time to get him an ipad and install it, or whatsapp on his phone so your son can video call, and when the weather gets better if he has a garden maybe your son could go around and they could chat in person through an open window or something I know it sounds daft but at least its some form of contact for them both, cleaning windows one on the inside and one outside is a fun thing for kids as well, your Dads windows will never be as clean!

My dad is a complete technophobe  When we lost my mum, my brother did the eulogy and one of the things he said was "don't text my dad, don't email him, he can just about answer the phone" He does have a garden and will be spending time out there - we will get to spend some time visiting when it warms up hopefully. I dropped some food off yesterday and waved through the conservatory window - he just looked little (he would hate me saying anything like this BTW - He.Is.Fine)

Saph 19-03-2020 02:05 PM

I would've loved this when I was a kid, a whole 4/5 months off school

Elderly people rarely go out at the best of times, so they sure aint going out more now, maybe for a walk and some exercise, maybe to get shopping, but thats about it if you discount clubs etc

Anyway ... i'm self isolating yes

They like a cafe and a chat...I've seen more oaps in my local cafe this week than non oaps...same at bus stops..Bloody nutters the lot of them.

such a worry for everyone

I've been working from home the past week but I still have to meet up with clients when I can.

I've still been going to the gym, which fortunately has been less busy than usual and stricter hygiene implemented but I was there yesterday and the difference from Tuesday was frightening. They've removed some equipment to ensure distancing and the entire place felt desolate. Sucked the energy out of me as soon I walked in. Might just finish off my workouts for this week and then take a week or two off, haven't had a rest since Christmas anyway so it's good timing.

Other than that and going to to the supermarket, I'm staying at home and avoiding contact with friends and family.

Greg! 19-03-2020 03:23 PM

Pretty much. Still going to work (think it’s closing on Friday though for the foreseeable) but all my uni classes are online now. Only really going outside to walk the dog or go for a lil food shop.

JerseyWins 19-03-2020 03:54 PM

I'm not going out of my way to self-isolate but I'm not being irresponsible or going out a lot right now either. Everyone in general is just kinda not going out as much and being a bit careful but not going crazy about it. As of today, my boss has started work from home for most (maybe soon all) people at my office though so that adds to my self-isolation atm I guess.

Probably going to hang out with a friend/friends this weekend unless things get worse. Trying to stay away from a friend that's sick with a bad cold & fever tho :joker: (and he's also trying to stay away from people right now) The corona life :bored:

JerseyWins 19-03-2020 03:55 PM

But I just saw apparently there's 742 cases in NJ now... that's up A LOT since just yesterday / 2 days ago :omgno:
