On holiday people pack into tight spaces at airports, in airplanes and around/inside hotel pools. Perhaps it's not unlawful but unless you can prove to me that people will be adequately social distancing in their plane seats or around busy hotel pools then you have no room to tell me what is and isn't my business :joker:

I understand the frustration because planning a wedding is nothing but easy  At least we don't have to worry about delaying...unless a second wave is preventing us from it!

Can’t believe both of them are “coming home” in as much as big move from America to within 8 miles of us, plus daughter is looking to come back up north, on the lookout for a new job.

...they’ve obviously realised how important family is to them and living close to family...and I think that’s been the way for many people, it’s made them think about changes that are possible..but wouldn’t have necessarily been made before...how lovely for you to have your family all around you so locally as well, I’m thrilled for you, Smudgie.....

Says the guy who has planned all his weekends over the summer around meeting people in bars etc, the moral highground really isn’t yours, if you had said I am just staying in you might have a leg to stand on :joker:

Thanks Ammi.
Still can’t believe our daughter in law has taken such a big step, giving up her life in America. Unfortunately our son just couldn’t settle over there.

That's so kind, thanks a lot! Fingers crossed it's going to be alright!
I think the lockdown somehow made me less stressed about it, now it's more like "well at least we're all together and the main thing is getting married".
We'll have a last vacation before, the last one before, just to really make sure we should do it, so it better be working out fine :joker:

Niamh. 15-07-2020 09:13 AM

Oh congratulations Remy, I didn't know you were getting married

Livia 15-07-2020 09:34 AM

We've booked a cottage and a little boat on the Norfolk Broads. It's only about a 45 minute trip door to door and we can take the dog. Perfect.

Again, I don't need you to tell me where I am allowed to have an opinion and where I am not. All I had said was that I find it odd that people are rushing to book flights because they just "need to get away". We have a perfectly good country here with an economy that could do with our help.

I made my thoughts clear enough in my initial post and you've just decided to have a pop. I must say it's very on-brand for you considering the amount of flame wars you've been in the middle of lately :hehe: Considering no-one in this thread who is actually going abroad has taken umbrage with what I posted, I feel like you are trying to find a problem where there isn't one. Shock!

Except I was the only one in the thread who is considering going abroad for a holiday as you very kindly exempted those visiting family from your curtain twitching.

Are you following me around or something I never notice threads you are involved in :hehe:

Ah so I struck a nerve. It makes sense now. If you're worried that I think you are foolish, I do. Deal with it!

Our economy may need help but so do other countries since most rely on tourism to keep their businesses running.

Not at all, lol, it was an opinion on your opinion

bots 15-07-2020 02:55 PM

the world needs to get back to as near normal as it can as quickly as it can and that includes going on holiday. Many people are desperate to get away after being shut inside for so long.

I understand this but that is precisely why it's important that people from all countries are investing in their own countries where they can.

On the flip side I would also hate to see that lots of people from other countries come holidaying in the UK this summer because they should also be staycationing in order to A) invest in their own country's economy and B) so that travel and tourism don't become catalysts for another surge in cases.

The travel economy also needs help so it’s a fine balance that needs to be struck

I've been making a packet lately, I'm thinking a xmas holiday to the Alps.

LaLaLand 17-07-2020 10:09 PM

We’re being given a new date next week for a staycation we had booked for end of May, nice big luxury lodge in West Wales by the sea. Can’t wait to just get away and have a change of scenery for a week!
