It says clearly in all reports and even in the opening post that the driver friend was black too.

Surely that is clearly known!

It’s like people have never seen a light skinned black man before, Jesus

Also, isn’t this just an example of the ‘horrible cancel culture’ that these right wingers are always complaining about? Funny that

As you say.

It's more likely to play down the race card.

A waste of time to try to get the message over really.
Good luck with it Liam.

If you can find an example of racism, that might help?

Nah it's just consequence culture.

Liam- 10-08-2020 12:27 PM

He wasn’t white.

Do people not understand how phone front cameras work?

The conspiracy theories people jump through to justify racism never fails to astonish me

Oliver_W 10-08-2020 12:36 PM

How do you know it was "racism"? Even if the driver is black, Hackney is a "minority-majority" area, the police would have their hands full if they stopped every car driven by a black guy

Oliver_W 10-08-2020 12:42 PM

Oops the police have released a statement:

Quote:

At approximately midday on Sunday, 9 August, police stopped a vehicle in Hackney.

Prior to stopping the vehicle, an officer incorrectly entered the registration into a police computer which identified the car as registered to an address in Yorkshire.

Upon stopping the vehicle and speaking with the driver, it quickly became apparent that the registration had been entered incorrectly and was registered to the driver in London.

Once the mistake was realised the officer sought to explain this to the occupants; they were then able to continue on their way.

No searches were carried out on any individuals.

One of the occupants has since been contacted by a senior officer and they have discussed the stop, subsequent interaction as well as feedback regarding the stop.

We have offered to meet with those involved to discuss the matter further.

Climb down off your cross, Dawn, nothing to do with race :)

oof

The Slim Reaper 10-08-2020 12:52 PM

Not sure why a car being registered in Yorkshire would require being stopped in London. I've never been stopped when I've driven down to that there London.

Liam- 10-08-2020 12:53 PM

Why did they feel the need to check on the plate in the first place?

5-0 cars do this automatically now since tax switched over to electronic.

They’ve said that the plate number was manually input incorrectly

I took that to mean at the DVLA.

"an officer incorrectly entered the registration into a police computer" :suspect:

user104658 10-08-2020 01:10 PM

But yes I was unaware that there's anything inherently suspicious about driving a car out of your local area . They must REALLY panic darn sarf when they scan my dodgy Scotch plates :worry:.

user104658 10-08-2020 01:11 PM

They did scan them in fact! They scanned and photographed them at a KFC car park because we were parked there for 4 hours and then they sent a £100 fine to my house along with the sordid pictures :(. Talk about criminal.

Ahh, my bad; just checked and not all police cars scan for plates, so that's my error because I didn't believe they'd need to input and check manually.

Maybe the area they incorrectly thought the cqr was from was under local lockdown?

No it was to do with police incompetence.

Livia 11-08-2020 11:50 AM

Never stop black people again. I can think of no other answer that will suit.

The Slim Reaper 11-08-2020 12:00 PM

There are actual laws about when it's right to stop and search, and those laws weren't written by any black or minority group.
