Because if you're in that field you want to be recognised for outstanding achievements the same as everyone else? It's easy for us to say it's a load of **** but it's their jobs I guess and it's an unfair system

Then give them an award if that's all they want. It doesn't need to be televised at some posh doo, with a red carpet and hired frocks, and with an after party, with a free bar.

Having been to a number of awards ceremonies (student/professional, not media :joker: ), frankly they're all circle-jerks and the awards are handed out mostly on the grounds of nepotism or because of some agenda or other of the award-giver. Half the time they don't even go to the most deserving nominee.

Ok but films are made for the public to watch, if that's what the people enjoyed most (even though they wouldn't be my choices either) then surely that's a fair system?

I think if so, it would have to be a selection of the public who have all watched all of the films ... just because, popular doesn't necessarily mean high quality, and it would be utter trash winning pretty much everything :joker:. Don't get me wrong, I actually love trash movies & TV, but objectively you still know when something is higher quality/award worthy.

But yeah I do agree that a "randomly selected" panel of people is always going to be a more objective judgment than an established group with conflicting interests.

Yeah, in public votes people will only vote for what they have seen.

Alf's polls are far more reliable than any Baftas or Golden Globes. No cheating in Alf's polls, the best wins.

It's their awards, their money and they can throw as much of a party as they want to, tbh. No one is forcing you to watch.
