Ben Wallace MP
Live on GMBHD itv
appears to say Pen and his staff can leave now
but Not the Animals.
He said he never stopped the Plane.

That is no good
the whole point is taking,
the animals with him.

Going to be heart breaking if they have to leave them basically they will all have to be put to sleep, there will be no one to take them on now

They were so close yesterday this is shattering

Cherie 27-08-2021 08:01 AM

Did you see that car that was on one of the evacuation flights out Arista? What was all that about, cars over humans and animals?

Yes but Pen should not of asked Biden.
Wrong time to ask him.
Of course he had no idea ISIS-K were going to Attack.

Can he drive to the Tik.... nation
with his 2 trucks?

So many Taliban checkpoints, maybe they can do it if it is just him and two or three staff, they must be all exhausted mentally and physically now especially after being so close, I couldn't blame him and his staff if he got on a plane with his staff, tragic

Ex-Royal Marine Pen Farthing has criticised US President Joe Biden after paperwork delays prevented him from boarding a flight at Kabul Airport before terrorists struck.

The 52-year-old, from Plymouth, has been fighting to get his charity workers and rescue animals out of Afghanistan following the Taliban’s takeover earlier this month.

But after arriving at the airport on August 26, the former serviceman said he and his team were “safely inside” before being turned away “into the chaos”.

He was referring to the terror attacks which took place at one of the airport’s entrances, killing dozens of civilians and US military personnel.

‘Went through hell to get there’

“The whole team and dogs and cats were safely inside the airport perimeter,” Farthing tweeted earlier today (August 27).

“We were turned away as Joe Biden had changed paperwork rules just two hours earlier.

Went through hell to get there and we were turned away into the chaos of those devastating explosions.

In an earlier interview, Farthing had suggested his evacuation mission had ended.

He also told reporters his convoy vehicle - used to transport his team and animals - was targeted by terrorists during the attacks.

"All of a sudden we heard gunshots and our vehicle was targeted,” he said.

"Had our driver not turned around he would have been shot in the head by a man with an AK-47.

"We've been in the airport, and back out of the airport; the whole thing's a mess."

Yes waste of time having a go at Biden.

He should have gone to the UK section

Pen is now at his Home/Base in Kabul.

it may be somewhat controversial, but if the guy was really fearful he would have got on a plane out of there without adding conditions to his exit

So easy to say that from the comfort of the UK, he has bonds with his staff and the animals, his wife and a pregnant staff member got out over a week ago, he could have left then , a brave man who has stood by his staff and animals, I doubt there are few ordinary citizens linked with the West still in Kabul who are not fearful for their lives

Cherie 27-08-2021 12:45 PM

According to some reports he has left Kabul now ...minus the staff and animals

bots 27-08-2021 06:50 PM

he has made it with the animals

Great news it had all gone very quiet, but what about the staff,
So the wording is pets which would imply just a few ...or am I misreading that

LaLaLand 27-08-2021 11:58 PM

Aw I'm so, so pleased!!

Doesn’t the RSPCA put hundreds of pets too sleep each week as they can’t find homes for them ?

Also what about quarantine and infections brought in ?

It’s not long ago they confirmed that animals could catch and , in theory , spread it

Hes named after a ****ig bike that's ****e as ****..

His whole plan in Afghanistan with the sanctuary was admiral, but overall unmanageable and as heart warming a thing to do as it was, it was also as pointless as getting a leg up onto the paddle of a penny farthing.

I hope he is safe, wherever the hell he is..we do need eccentrics in the uk, and he sounds like one to me.

He should have saved the afgahn goats first, imo.

They have trained over 500 vets including the first female Afghan vets

They also run a donkey sanctuary

Mr Farthing, real name Paul, is a 52-year-old former Royal Marines commando from Plymouth, who went on to found the Nowzad Dogs charity in Kabul.

He was deployed to Afghanistan in 2006 during Operation Herrick 5 with K Coy, 42 Commando Royal Marines.

There he met a fighting dog called Nowzad – after the town he was staying in – who became the catalyst for his charity.

Nowzad seeks to reunite servicemen with the dogs and cats they befriend while serving, and humanely control Kabul’s stray dog and cat population using trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (TNVR) methods.

Nowzad has now helped and rehomed more than 1,700 animals – many of them with soldiers who formed bonds with them on the front lines during their deployment. The charity has also trained more than 500 veterinary students in Kabul over the years.

Mr Farthing and his wife Kaisa Markhus had been travelling back and forth between their Exeter home and Afghanistan, but they were trapped in the central Asian country early last year when the pandemic hit.

Mr Farthing announced in the media that he has 130 spare seats for Afghans who have permission to travel to the UK. The Taliban‘s spokesperson said the group will stop Afghans from fleeing the country.

He told i on Wednesday : “I’ve had lots of Afghans trying to reach me, they’ve been coming to my door. It’s been overwhelming.”

He added that he refuses to leave his staff and animals behind.

“My staff and animals are in danger too. My employees have teenage daughters. They are afraid they will be forced to marry fighters and kept as sex slaves,” he said.

“I had to make the agonising decision to put to sleep 17 of my dogs and release 25 on to the streets. We simply haven’t got the room on the plane. We chose to euthanise the older ones and let go the fittest who are the most feral.

“It was heartbreaking making that list and myself and my staff shed tears. I can’t leave the rest. Many of them will not survive on the streets. Dog fighting is rife here.”

Paul should have demanded his correct name was used from the beginning, tbh, a lot of confusion could have been saved

Amy Jade 28-08-2021 09:11 AM

so glad he's managed to get out with the animals. i hope the staff can also get out soon

Cherie 28-08-2021 09:53 AM

Disappointed about his staff...not all the animals either ...can’t at some woman moaning about the animals on LBC, they weren’t taking a seat on the plane :bored:
