She is Charles' wife of course she is going to be seen with him. I think she was a brave woman to marry Charles...especially knowing she was disliked so much. The backlash she endured...and she never moaned once. You can see how happy they are together.

Yeah, its not as if their affair broke up Diana and Charles's marriage, and then she dumped him - its been a true love story really.

Harry on Camilla:

https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/uks-...amilla-2751780

[In 2005, Harry rejected the image of her as a "wicked stepmother", describing her as a "wonderful woman and she's made our father very, very happy, which is the most important thing.
"William and I love her to bits."]

both diana and charles had affairs. That was never a happy relationship. I'm sure they were both aware of the situation going into the marriage.

I don't know Camilla .... what she is called just doesn't bother me. It's not like calling someone king or queen means anything these days

No comparison at all !!

Di had reason to look around when she realised she was in a loveless marriage and he’d been cheating on her before and after their fecking wedding day

It was around 5 years after their marriage before Charles resumed his affair with Camilla, although maintaining his friendship with her during those years drove Diana wildly jealous as she knew his heart really belonged to Camilla. By that time Diana was having affairs of her own.
Long after the divorce Diana said Charles was a good man and one of the kindest men she had ever known.

The Crown (written by an anti - monarchist) is mainly fiction but many people believe its way OTT portrayal of Diana, Charles and Camilla is the truth. It really isn’t.
Camilla has come a long way from getting rotten eggs thrown at her in the street and having to hide indoors for months. She has quietly worked at her many charities and has devoted herself to supporting Charles and the Queen all these years. I never thought I’d say this, because I loved Diana, but she has earned the respect she now has from many in the public and the Queen. Fair play to her.

That’s not the version I read / saw .

I was under the impression the terrible two were having an affair before the wedding day until well after ... and in between as well .

I’ve never heard about that 5 year gap you refer to .. and I don’t believe it either

Sounds like complete hogwash

Their affair stopped after the wedding, but they remained close friends, which obviously bothered Diana. She knew where his heart lay, so in a way he was still being unfaithful to Diana, just not physically.
When the marriage had irretrievably broken down after about 5 years, the affair resumed. The only other version that portrays it any differently is the mostly fictionilised series the Crown.
But if you believe differently, fine - many people still do.

smudgie 06-02-2022 06:41 PM

Pleased to hear it.
Queen consort is what she is entitled to if married to a King.

"The monarch" doesn't rule over anything at all, not even England, in any way, let alone the other commonwealth/ex-empire nations. We have a symbolic monarchy, not an active one. You do understand that, right? The UK is ruled by a gaggle of Eton toffs headed up by a scraggy-haired snake oil salesman, The Queen has absolutely no real power of any kind (other than being an exceptionally wealthy lady; but the Royals don't even leverage that power the way other wealthy people do).

It’s a figure of speech…. I did call it ‘constitutional’ a few posts before too :idc:

I can say Liz rules over Britain for all I care, it doesn’t mean I see her as some sort of dictator ordering Boris what to do.

And she is not just ‘an exceptionally wealthy lady’; she can declare war, appoint Lords (who debate and approve the bills of the commons), and eventually she approves the bills of parliament into law., all of which affect your life and my life.

She has been staunch

a fitting honour for a great loyal lady

Philip did worse

And no one is going to be refusing Camilla her crown because of something that happened in the 80s, and no one cares about anymore

I guess? But the Lords has been pretty toothless in recent years.

PURELY ceremonial/a formality, if a law went through the houses and was refused by the monarch we'd be a Republic faster than you can say "we only have a monarchy for PR".

It's a puppet monarchy. As it should be of course. The concept of hereditary rule was always gross.
