Obviously not, it was ridiculously over the top, however, I don’t buy into the he shouldn’t have been offended narrative, when a joke is aimed at a specific person for a specific uncontrollable situation, people have the right to be offended if it offends them, since when is people having feelings a bad thing? Is everyone supposed to be heartless robots these days or?

Of course not but any moral high ground Will had, he utterly destroyed with what he did. As Someone else said earlier, if Will hadn't done anything in that moment but mentioned it in his acceptance speech about commenting on his wife's appearance due to her medical condition, I think he would have "won" and Chris would look like the bad guy

Cancel comedians. We don't want people like Ricky Gervais roasting us privliged people.

I thought you might enjoy this video Alf

Ricky Gervais was worshiped for his roasting of Hollywood people, he was saying things like they hang out with paedos and all sorts.

So Chris Rock has one question for you trying to say he did wrong here.

Thank you, I'll have a look.

Vanessa 30-03-2022 02:38 PM

I have wondered if it was staged to get the Oscars in the headlines. And if it was, it looks like it worked

Actually I think you'll find American comedians regardless of race & even gender get away with alot on their own turf .

When British comedians go across the pond ie Ricky Gervais ,James Corden etc ,then there's resentment at the jokes. And it's always called 'controversial' and they get a bit of a dressing down.

But whoever the comedian is ,if a joke is seen as offensive especially nowadays then it will make headlines.

But Chris Rock & Will Smith are only making headlines because of the slap , otherwise that GI Jane silly joke probably would have just gone by like nothing.

I don't think it was though, that behaviour/body language guy in the video doesn't either

Who knows? It's just the timing that's a bit odd for me.

I have seen ordinary people diagnose themselves with depression, does it mean they’re qualified to give a professional insight into depression

The whole thing was pretty surreal, it just makes no sense imo for Will Smith to have agreed to stunt like that, all it could really do him is harm, career and reputation wise

That body language guy agreed with me that Chris Rock's reaction to the attack was handled like a true professional.

I'm well over 50% sure it isn't a set-up, but there is always a little bit of me that doesn't trust the elites so I will always question them and their motives for doing things.

Yes he did, I really liked his analysis of Chris Rock in particular as well

GoldHeart 30-03-2022 03:25 PM

It happened so quickly , maybe Rock didn't expect Smith to actually hit him.But he definitely knew some form of confrontation was about to happen.

He's the presenter so whether he was just trying to hold the envelope like a professional, but it just looks odd how his reflex with his hands stay behind his back .

Even if he didn't want to 'fight back ' ,you'd think he'd still automatically have his body language in a way to protect himself.

Here's some conspiracy fuel for your fire then Alf; what if it was set up, but Chris Rock wasn't in on it? They needed his reaction to be genuine, so they told him to make the joke but not what would happen. Catch his genuine shock at it happening to make it convincing. Then afterwards they inform him of the full plan and that he isn't to press charges. :omgno:

I have already seen that theory pushed about. Some said Smith had an ear piece and was told what to do.

I preferred the Pfizer theory. That Pfizer, who sponsored the Oscars have a new alopecia medication coming out.

Would have been funnier if it was a white actor hitting him...the world would have melted.

Why do you feel the need to bring race into it

Yeah sadly this has now become more about Will Smith's anger & Chris Rock's silly joke , and less about the ACTUAL MOVIES/OSCAR NOMINATIONS/WINS.

I' still curious about his movie King Richard though.

Awards shows are a thing of the past

I've just watched a video where someone mentions it..

It would be a completely different story had it been though.

Will Smith was right.

A man mocked his wife's medical condition and her appearance, in front of millions of people. He's lucky he got a slap and not a punch. And I think Will was going for a punch until he pulled himself back at the last minute. I'm sure all the people backing Rock would politely stand back and smile if someone ripped the piss out of their partner's medical condition.

The fact that the academy asked Will to leave and is now considering banning him is ****ing lunacy. Expecting a man not to react in a situation like this is laughable.

So you believe Donald Trump should go around slapping people in the face everytime someone mocks his wife? And she has been called all sorts many times. Don't remember you ever egging him on to go and assault people for it.

I think it's time for some alopecia jokes on here today. Sadly Jada won't see them, well that's hair loss.

Most people's hair falls out. Prince William is bald as badger. I'll make baldy jokes about his egg head as well.

I don't even think Chris Rock knew about her medical condition though tbf. Should he have researched why she shaved her head? Maybe but that still doesn't give anyone the right to hit him and I'm surprised anyone thinks violence is an appropriate reaction to words. What kind of a lawless messed up society would we be in if you could just go around hitting anyone who said something we didn't like?
