Trump apparently says a lot of things that don't always turn out to be true.

It was on LBC and Times Radio

Exactly. You didn't hear it from Trump. Why would Trump tell LBC or Times radio and not tell anyone else?

If any of that was true (government involvement) there would have been no sale Alf. Whichever governments were involved would have too much vested interest in it not changing hands. Surely.

It was on Reuters news feed

Now Global ALF
he has his own Forum

[Trump says he will NOT go back to Twitter
after Elon Musk's purchase and will instead
start using Truth Social within SEVEN DAYS]

I don't agree. Our government can't even cover up a party they had. What chance have they got against Elon's money?

If it was any government it would be the US government, not the UK government. $40 billion is chump-change to the US if it was to cover up anything significant... and they wouldn't even have to fork out that much to pay off enough Twitter shareholders to stop the purchase.

user104658 26-04-2022 12:31 PM

Also just to point out the government wealth and personal wealth are very different things; as rich as Elon is... the UK spent 2x his entire fortune on Covid. :umm2:. About 50% of Elon's entire net worth was spent on Furlough alone.

40b is chump-change to Musk, but it's actually his chump-change whereas the Governments chump-change isn't actually theirs, it belongs to the people.

It's actually a significant chunk of his net worth (I mean... it will make no difference at all to him because we're talking about such vast sums of money... but in terms of percentage) which does make me wonder why acquiring Twitter is so important to him. If it had been "a couple of billion" I'd just put it down to him doing it on a whim... but $40 billion is a lot even for Musky.

i think twitter made some bad decisions without working through justifications and implications and left itself open to accusations of unfairness. Its quite possible that it was influenced by politics, but at the end of the day, that chapter is closing and a new one begins

Musk could easily drive it into the ground and the platform could be dead within a year

Twitter has been utterly ridiculous in terms of "fairness" (people banned for fairly moderate opinions while serious cases of defamation... and actual child porn... stays up for months) however I don't think it's going to be any better under Musk. He'll allow more free opinion but will do nothing to crack down on actual threats of violence or illegal activity.

Alf 26-04-2022 12:38 PM

All twitter had to do was leave people alone. But the addiction of being in a powerful position took over and they couldn't help themselves. Tyrants who got it into their heads that they should control what is and isn't acceptable.

We will have to see
many of us are looking forward to an Edit button

Madonna told us that she "had seriiously considered blowing up the Whitehouse"

Don't even think she was arrested for inciting terrorism.

She was fine to stay on twitter while people like Milo was silenced for critiquing an acting performance in Ghostbusters.

Something had to change, let's hope it has with Elon.

Do you think Madonna had actually considered "blowing up the Whitehouse" ...

Probably not, but she got up on a podium in front of a large crowd of people and claimed that she had.

Donnie's Truth social is top of the pops. Tweeted out here by Mr Musk.

Alf 27-04-2022 05:23 PM

He did a follow up tweet.

I wonder if Twitter has done anything about Becca The Husky yet?

Because for some reason Twitter likes Zoophiles on their platform over people with controversial opinions which is just warped imo.

If Elon Musk can fix that problem at least that'll be a good thing.

Musk will just be another Zuckerberg , he'll let all sorts of offensive and inappropriate stuff slip through with ZERO monitoring .

I wonder if people on Twitter will also get their accounts HACKED, like what happens on FACEBOOK all the time with no solution to solve the problem.

I had a look at the first page of his followers and most of them were created in May 2022.

bots 14-05-2022 06:32 AM

the value of his tesla shares has dropped significantly, so my guess is that he wants to negotiate the sale price down to compensate or pull out completely

Well that's fine, being offended is better than being silenced  as long as they're not actively calling for violence, it doesn't matter what words someone types on a screen.

arista 17-06-2022 04:48 AM

Elon Musk has had a video Chat
with Twitter Staff.

But he has still not said he is buying it.
