I've not had one piece of election literature from any party. Normally there are posters, banners and at least two pieces of literature. Anyone had any?

Kate! 30-04-2023 10:49 AM

I won't be voting

Why ?

Whoever gets elected will mess things up .. just in a different way ..

I’ve lived through oodles of different governments even a couple of collaborations and they all managed to completely balls things up ..

Some of the darkest days were under Labour rule so please don’t tell me they are the saviours

Why
because it is your right,

Local MP's
can help people.

The Sewage issue
is a major point,
Conservatives allowing them not invest enough.

Livia 30-04-2023 12:02 PM

I feel like if you don't vote, don't moan about who's elected.

I don’t give rat’s arse about the government in charge as it makes diddly-squat-squared difference to all us at the bottom of the pile .

I just despair when I see so many believe that everything will be better under Labour when history shows that the idea is completely preposterous
They will make changes but if will all be a different type of horrible

yeah, its just a selection that are up for a vote. For example, there are only 3 lib dem seats up for grabs across the whole of england, so it's impossible for them to do badly

I binned my voting card as soon as I received it, i never vote in local elections

I'm kind of surprised others haven't agreed with this.
So I'm doing so now.

Democracy has to rely on support of voters.

It's pretty well known what I think of this present government.
However these are local elections
I know of loads of GOOD, yes good, Con councils as well as Labour and other Parties.
Bad ones too.

Even now in general elections, the last 3 haven't even had a 70% turnout.
If people don't vote, where does this democracy people claim is so vital, end up?

I simply and it's my view, I get slammed for it at times.
I cannot accept myself, that there's NO candidate be it for a Party or Independent one, who could be worthy of a vote.

It is however extremely rich if someone doesn't vote who then moans as you say Livia, at whatever PM, government or Council takes power.
I also find often it's those who don't vote, who at times moan the most about governnments and councils.

Politics is life.
Everyone that gets elected to any power gets control over our lives, finances what we can and cannot do.
I'd certainly want to always have a say and choice in that.

No matter who anyone votes for, I may really be dismayed and disappointed at results that haven't gone my own hopes way.
However I respect and admire all who make the effort to use their democratic vote.
Immaterial of the arguments around opposing views.

With postal voting, proxy voting and in person voting it's hardly a chore to vote.
I don't agree with the ID rule now but it's done so fair enough.

Finally, yes, a democratic right to vote means in the UK, you don't HAVE to vote.
However it's a bit like being part of a club and if part of a club, you are unlikely to not USE such a club.

I feel it's still, even with some of the most awful politicians we've likely ever had in this Country.
Near ALL the current leaders of all Parties included by me there.
However to go and use my vote, being able to for me, is an honour to be eligible to be in that 'club' so to speak and do so.

bots 03-05-2023 10:15 AM

my council services are good, i was vaguely relieved that they didn't hike the charges much this year, so as far as i'm concerned they can carry on as they are, i have no need to vote. If that changes, then i will consider voting
