logically, labour should win the next election, but more and more elections are won by the party that captures the public support for the issue of the moment. Brexit did it for the tories last time, opposition to ULEZ did it for the london candidate this time. Who knows what issue of the moment will surface in the run up to the election

add to that the woke agenda, the banks, immigration. There are a few bubbling topics that could win/lose an election
|
Well it's got Ed Davey very excited anyhow.

Its pretty grim that Labour didn't see the extension of the ULEZ charge as an issue and only changed tack half way through the campaign, how out of touch can you be?

Yes Danny did not think it was important at the start, then was scared of the press. Danny was Labour Stupid |

You called it right as to ULEZ, well done. Good forecasting. It did become the main issue there. Danny tried to reconcile the message from the doorsteps on ULEZ with the fudging of Starmer on it. Certainly that's the major factor that led to not winning this seat. I felt for Danny really. However, Uxbridge and Ruislip, nor when it was just Uxbridge, plus Ruislip as Ruislip and Northwood, this area has NEVER elected Labour Not even under Blair in 1997. Whereas in Selby and Ainsty, when Selby was its own constituency Labour did hold Selby marginally between 1997 to 2010. |

[Rishi Sunak is preparing to launch a more aggressive political campaign in an attempt to shift Labour's lead in the polls with divisive policies on crime, migrant boats and transgender rights, The Times reports.] https://liveblog.digitalimages.sky/l...475a71ea6c.png |

Letter to the DT
SIR – The anti-Ulez victory in Uxbridge makes clear the only way the
Tories can win the next general election: the net zero targets and all the impositions that would hit voters’ pockets must be scrapped in favour of common-sense policies to grow the economy and make people’s lives easier. The ban on new petrol cars in 2030 must go, as must the push for expensive and inefficient heat pumps. Rishi Sunak should reshuffle his Cabinet to indicate this radical change in direction. i think the ditching of gas boilers and petrol/diesel cars have to go, the targets aren't going to be achieved anyway

The problem with the green issues are, not that they're wrong in my view, also too when asked about support for green issues, in polling they are even strongly supported. Then however once there's a financial issue for people such as with ULEZ and the upgrading of vehicles etc; then that support drifts away. How to reconcile that is the problem both Labour and the Cons need to find a way to address. |
I think i read that Khan made £100 million revenue in Ulez fines in 3 years

Starmer talking live in Nottingham
has had go at ULEZ, picking on old cars, poor folks, having to pay £12.50 a journey. He does not want to lose other outer London seats/ at the general election. But the London mayor will not stop it. |
This greenwashed tax doesn't make the air any cleaner, does it?

Quote:
This was generally accepted and it was Boris Johnson as Mayor who brought it in place. For the London area. However Khan has decided to extend it to the outer London areas. Which has met with some opposition to it. Did he consult enough or properly. Starmer does need to apply some pressure to Khan on this as to its extension to the outer London areas certainly. |
Khan has given 9 months notice of the scheme, during a period that is very difficult for everyone
