Well, I know them well enough to know that there is a difference between who you feel obliged to invite and who you want to really invite.

It's good to have a filter. It also gives those who don't really care that much about it all a good excuse to not attend. Only those that really want to will be there.

It's not selfish at all to have your own wedding where and when you want it. What would be selfish would be to expect someone to change their own wedding plans to suit you. If you can't go, wish them the best and stay home.

I was married on a Monday, register office, just to make our living together legal for the kids.
We were just going to grab a couple of witnesses but family had other ideas, we kept it as low key as we could though.
But I fully understand the need for the big white wedding for some girls.

Again though that's not the issue here at all, the issue was that Noky said her reasoning for having it abroad on a Wednesday (basically bang slap in the middle of the week so most people would need to take a whole week off work as it's abroad) would be to see who'd do all that to go to her wedding. I don't know about anyone else but I've never met a girl who when "dreaming about their wedding day" wanted a day that would inconvience people the most

Aah, I get your drift.
But hopefully she gets the wedding of her dreams……or nightmare if nobody turns up:laugh::laugh:

Hmm I guess it is selfish but I didn't really think too much of it. The only thing I'd say is that if she does want it to be abroad it should be because she genuinely wants it there and the experience/vibe of it rather than to see how much/who really cares about being there.

what a selfish entitled person

This did seem a strange choice of thing to say, even if said in jest. Put alongside her comments about her photo - which she turned around to be about herself and her beauty contest, rather than remaining focused on the people in the picture, does give a certain impression of her. And didn’t Yinrun mention something about wanting to get to know the person behind the beauty contest winner, giving the impression that was Noky’s main topic of conversation.

She just doesn't want casual hangers on there.

But surely she knows her friends well enough that she can just choose not to invite casual hangers on!!?
If you follow this argument, it would seem to say more about the quality of her friendships. Or maybe she’s one of those people who have 800 Facebook ‘friends’, the majority of whom she has never met.
Either way, it comes across as shallow, especially when put alongside other evidence.

But wanting a wedding abroad is not a new concept. Plenty of people do it especially in hotspots like Greece and Italy

Yes I have gone right off her the last couple of days.

She's well spoken and seems nice but when she was talking to Dylan about the places she's visited around the world, the cruises she's been on and all that, I just said no.

This is a spoiled woman. Probably never really done a day's work in her life.

That wasn't the issue though it was her reasoning why she wanted it abroad and mid week.........to test how many people would put themselves out for her

As I said before, there is often a huge difference between who you want to invite and who you feel obliged to invite.

She probably has quite a wide circle of friends and her work probably heavily bleeds into that.

You think it is 'shallow', I choose not to.

I don't think there's anything wrong with weddings abroad at all as long as the couple understand that some people won't be able to go because of money/childcare/work etc Judging them as not real friends because of that is very unfair I think

Crimson Dynamo 20-10-2023 09:08 AM

why is this such a hard concept for people to understand?

I respect your point of view as it’s all a matter of perception at the end of the day.
