Not really, all the counties in Northern Ireland are in Ulster, the most Northern Provence in Ireland but some of Ulster is part of the republic. Also, East and West exist too. I'm in southern Ireland because I'm in Cork/Munster not just because I'm in the Republic of Ireland.

I suppose it's a bit like to all the Englishes, Scotland (and even Yorkshire and beyond) are "The North" but to us Central Belt Scottish folk, "Up North" means the Highlands & Islands / Inverness etc.

Everywhere is north of somewhere I guess.

'cept Santa's house.

Except for the fact Northern Ireland is actually called Northern Ireland but the Republic of Ireland is not called Southern Ireland, it's called the Republic of Ireland. When people in the UK say "Southern Ireland" they say it like that's the actual name of the country and it isn't.

I don't refer to the republic of ireland, i just call it ireland and everyone i know does the same. We only differentiate when we talk of Northern Ireland

In what situation would you need to be more clear?

I ask because I always just say the town I'm from. I think in a discussion most people already know I'm Scottish, and I would imagine it's the same for you being Irish.

When I'm talking about Ireland and Northern Ireland or being clear which "Ireland " I'm talking about. Scotland isn't split in two so id imagine it's not much of a consideration for you

It's next to impossible to protect a border where the country is your primary trade partner

Has Trump ever mentioned that in all his vitriol
